We're going to get this for Mappy-Land tomorrow.

Those are terrible pictures, and I will remove them and re-take.

It won't boot, it has a "ROM 2" error - usually that just means that one of the pots for power isn't getting enough juice to a board. From KLOV and my own notes when I go to fix it tonight:

100 is -5
101 is +5
102 is +12

Fast-forward!

Mappy is at the new house/doom house. And I can't raise the marquee because the ceiling isn't high enough.

It's 80 inches tall when raised, according to ggdb.com. But you need more than 80 inches because when you raise it, it's going from flat to up to forward.

My 3D relational skills are poor. I might be able to unscrew it and re-attach it in the proper position. I dunno.

So far, my high score is 1,120.

Give... give me a chance to improve that, please.

What is your Mappy high score? I have MAME on my laptop and a fun-filled evening planned in this hotel room.

I put the high score kit on Mappy tonight and suuuuuuuure enough it is saving high scores.

I was gonna say Odyssey 2 but I'll leave it to the experts!

Pick up all the stolen property and don't get touched by the cats. The cats can't harm you while you're in the air after bouncing on a trampoline, and can be knocked back by opening a door into them. If you hang around a level too long a blue coin shows up to hunt you down, Mappy's version of Joust's pterodactyl.

Wow, this is sad. I just watched some gameplay videos of Mappy and am unsure of the objectives, let alone the motives. Can you enlighten?

We did a lot of good work in this thread, chiefly garbage daying Mouse Trap. Flack is right - it does look like a Spectrum game.

Ice Cream Jonsey wrote:Flack, on a scale of 1-100, with ALL VIDEO GAMES in play - from Pong to Halo 4 ... What rating do you give Mouse Trap?

I give it a 37. I feel we have known each other long enough that if you truly like the game you will rate it accordingly and tell me there's 37 of something I can suck in a row.
Right off the bat I start off at 50 because of those shitty mono-colored sprites. It looks like a ZX Spectrum game. Then it gets -25 for being a Pac-Man maze clone, so we're down to 25. I like bring able to interact with the maze so that's +10, but the buttons being square is -10. i guess it gets +5 for the digitized samples and +5 for the Buckner and Garcia song. That puts us at 35, but I'd take 5 away for the terrible side art and marquee. So, eh, 30.

If I saw this sitting next to Mappy and had half a dozen quarters, I'd play Mappy six times and not feel bad about it.

Good news! jrok made a high score save.

Good news! The affected chips SEEM to be socketed:

Good news! The RAM that needs to be replaced also seems to be socketed.

Bad news! I don't have a ROM burner.

Good news! I think I am gonna place an order through hobbyroms this weekend.

Mappy is a fat fucker who hasn't seen his mouse feet in three years and the monsters just point and laugh (see again: side art).

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Sat Nov 10, 2012 1:17 pm

OK, that's a great song. I give Mouse Trap a 40% because of that song.

Whatever points the game loses for having square buttons, it regains by having its own theme song.
