Jonsey, the only cunt that's allowing Pinback into it is one is allowing everyone west of the Mississippi into it. Impressive? Naw, not really.
Anyways, the aliens gestated on the planet, but never actually did anything until the humans wandered around, and everywhere that they were doing any kind of serious movement was in oxygen-rich locations - inside of spaceship, in the "shake-n-bake" colony, etc. Of course, the queen did survive leaving the atmosphere while clinging to the outside of a ship... and the facehuggers did hatch out in the wastes... but, no one ever said that there was no oxygen on the planet, and we're supposed to believe that the aliens are more like cockroaches or some other very resilient insect... like those ones that get frozen every winter, thaw out, then keep wandering around like nothing happened.
Ehhh, what do you want. Let's face it, the first one was basically Friday the 13th in space; they weren't trying to make a heavily scientifically-accurate movie.
And, Pinback is absolutely and completely wrong. Aliens director's cut is better than the theatrical cut. He will be happy to know that the upcoming box set will have both, though.
The fact that the only thing he liked new was the sentry guns clearly shows that his moviegoing intellect is somewhere in the "ooh, pretty 'splosions" zone.
Today I will rent the following.
