Fallacy of Dawn question (SPOILER)

Post by chaos-five »

(STOP READING NOW IF YOU HAVE NOT COMPLETED FALLACY OF DAWN)

So I've managed to figure my way through most of the game, and I've become trapped in the office.

I have Neve's damaged keypass, a pistol, cyan ree, magenta ree, and a serial cable.

I can't figure out how to open the oak door or receptionist door, and I haven't found anything interesting in Neve's office.

I can't figure out how to enter the doctor's room without dying. I haven't figured out what the colorful ree pills do besides heal me. I've tried eating them in order (CYMK, that is) but I still die.

It seems the obvious course of action is to break the first floor window in Neve's office and escape, but the window appears to not exist to commands. >.<

Other than this puzzle, the others have yielded to logic fairly quickly, and the writing is nothing short of fantastic.

TIA

This looks like where the problem is. The doc is controlling you using his computer. If you shoot the computer that should be it for his days of controlling you, and you will be able to grab his stuff, which I am pretty sure will help you escape.

If my memory failed and that doesn't help you, just let me know. Over the last couple of years, my ability to remember things has started to rival Delarion's. :)

I think that's because the competent use it first ;)

Thanks, exactly the info I needed. I thought the electric pistol was a tazer, and didn't think to use it for destruction >.<

Finished it a few minutes later. Loved it, and I'm going to go download everything else you've got =)

Thanks again for a fantastic game!

Hey, I am quite glad you liked it. The other games that I did before it are "rougher" in ... well, to be honest, in just about everything. Going in with lower expectations would pretty much be my custom "User's Manual" to the rest of them. But I hope you can crack a couple smiles out of them nevertheless.

Fallacy of Dawn Help

Post by virotti »

I killed the doctor, and I can't figure out how to kill those thugs. I noticed the chandelier on top of them, but I can't shoot it since the crystal cannon is out of ammo and the pak i got is for a pistol, not for a cannon. I even thought about jumping on it and kicking the thugs, but that was not implemented i guess, :(

That oak door (next to the lab door) is buggy and won't open, and i thought perhaps there were smth there...

Thanks in advance!

I am almost positive that your pistol is still around, somewhere, in the office building there. I think it was placed in a tray. I'll take a look at see where I placed it...

OK, looking back, the pistol is in something called the "closet tray." (Sorry, it's been a while since I have played through and couldn't recall that off the top of my head.) Looks like that's just sitting in the closet. Can you verify whether it's there or not?

(And I think "install ammo" or "load ammo" is how you are supposed to load the pistol.)
That oak door (next to the lab door) is buggy and won't open, and i thought perhaps there were smth there...
Thanks in advance!
Yeah, that was by design. I wanted there to be symmetry to the end game building there, but had to cut what that door was originally leading to. I should have removed it altogether.

But yes, shooting the chandelier is the easiest way to get past those guys. Let me know if you find the pistol and if it works out OK for you. Hope you're having fun with it.

pistol, oak door..

there is a fatal bug i provoked in the game that locked the lab door as well. it ocurred after i closed the lab door and checked both doors more than once.

i was having fun with the game till i got stuck and faced this annoying bug, even though, as pointed out by Emily Short, there are many in-jokes and expressions that are too foreign to me (I'm a translator whose native tongue is Brazilian Portuguese, but i think she's a native).

Ah, that puzzle with the bad games to rent and the stupid clerk was not really solvable without any in-game hints, so i had to search in google (i wasted a lot of time with that one, but no hard feelings! :) )

Now about this one with the pistol: i'm playing release 1.02 i got from the underdogs homepage, and there is not a room in this game with a "closet" or a "closet tray" And yeah, the sentence works this way: "install [ammo name] into [weapon name]", but i'd never think about using install, so i use "load" as you said, and it's not in the parser's vocabulary list.

I'm really glad to be talking to you, i never talked about interactive fiction with people who are currently playing/writing IF games.

Ah, i did not express myself very well: i meant that i thought about swinging on the chandelier and kicking the thugs, it would be pretty cool.

I really think you should consider updating this game, fixing some annoying bugs and giving the player the chance to use different inputs, like typing out or leave and the player would be able to leave a room, or using "office" as a synonym for the word "room". And I only say that because i liked the work you've put on this game, even if it is not flawless.

I have two of your other games, so i'll try to play them when i finish this one, but you have to tell me what is this closet you are talking about....

best regards,

virotti menotti

not a fatal bug

i exagerate, it would just make someone who has not killed neve be unable to finish the game, but of course that game wouldn't crash...

help me please!

i'm sorry if you got offended with anything i might have said, and I just wanted to ask you if you could tell me where this closet is supposed to be, since I've checked every corner of the office building and couldn't find it. Which room is it where the pistol is hiding?

Whoops! Sorry, I didn't see your response there. Oh, no, I wasn't offended by anything -- didn't mean to give that impression at all. I'm glad you bumped the thread.

To address your earlier point:
I really think you should consider updating this game, fixing some annoying bugs and giving the player the chance to use different inputs, like typing out or leave and the player would be able to leave a room, or using "office" as a synonym for the word "room". And I only say that because i liked the work you've put on this game, even if it is not flawless.
I've been thinking about doing that, and really the only reason I haven't is that I worry about putting the game into an even worse state when I am finished "fixing" it. There's a lot of NPCs doing their own thing in the game, and I would hate to change or add some syntax that breaks their routines and has the whole thing grinding to a halt. On the other hand, if there are fatal bugs which stop the game from being able to be completed I want to sniff those out, definitely.

OK, onto where the pistol is:

Code: Select all

o exit the cell
o go east
o open the metal door
o enter metal door
o Should now be in the Closet. There's a line: "There is a tray with some of my stuff in it..."
o x tray (should say the electric pistol is in there)
Actually, if the pistol isn't there, could you let me know? That's a bug if that's the case.

And re-playing the game, the whole "enter door" thing working and "out" not working is unbelievably annoying. I fixed that for my latest game -- I can't believe I let that go. What was I thinking? Heh.

Thanks again for bringing this to my attention, Virotti. I think I might just go back and fix this one.

I finished the game!

Thank you, pal, but I found out my mistake before reading your reply...I found it last monday. i had not noticed there was an east corridor from the cell...I found the dialogue with that guy inside the kitchen quite nice, and the fact that Yar likes really old videogames like pacman without being programmed to do so is a nice touch to the story.

Here are my suggestions:

*More synonyms should be allowed
*"load gun", not only "install ammo into gun"
*some subtle but fair hints for the get-the-money-to-buy-a-pistol puzzle (they could mention the place, and Yar could mention something that would lead the player to do what is required to put that clerk out of comission
*check some weird bug that makes Yar get change for that bill (from the first part of the game) even after you are no longer on that scene
*sometimes the next picture does not load, so we see a picture from another location when we are no longer there

Ah, I got 80 points out of 100...Maybe because i did not manage to get that mask for the kid who owns the owner of that tatoo place a couple of bucks...Is that possible to do? The guy asks for a CREDIT, not a DEBIT card, and Yar does not have it...

Just tell me what you think you can do, I think if people could find the game fair, it would be a better experience. for everyone...

"for the kid who owns the owner'' should be read the following way: "of the kid who owes the owner"....
