Chasing Amy (whom I saw in a theater with our co-worker Chris) was the first movie that made me think about the movie going experience. Previously we'd go see Star Wars and so forth but whether it was in a theater or on TV made no difference to me.

I also got beat up outside Robocop 2. That soured me on movie theaters.

But watching Chasing Amy made me think, hmm, this was better in this environment. And I could do something like this. Some of my early games were inspired in part by it.

I also have to use it as an example of why I can't take the screeching on the internet seriously. 10-12 years after it came out it was used as an example of OMG cis male scum shitlord how DARE you make a movie where the girl's sexual preference changes. A few years after that I've seen it heralded by otherwise non-fans of Kevin Smith for it's depiction of bi-sexuality.

So while I picked CA, I have to state that Brodie Bruce of Mallrats is probably my favorite film character.

I will understand of the rest of you hate his movies.

A few years ago I attended one of KS's tour dates in Fort Collins. Jason Mewes was with him. They are good guys who can put on a great show. Just those two talking and it was incredible.

Is it culturally insensitive if I've never seen any of these movies? Will there be references I will never understand bevause of my lack of film watching?

I've spent 24 hours thinking about this poll. I can't in good conscience vote for a non View Askew film, so things like Cop Out and Red State are out. After a lot of internal debate I've narrowed it down to Mallrats, Clerks II, and Dogma. I'll vote for one of those today.

I can't imagine anyone our age who has ever spent a minute working in retail of any kind wouldn't enjoy Clerks on some level. It's an occasionally flawed film made by a first-time director with almost no budget, but lines like "I'm not even supposed to be here today" have a universal appeal to our generation.

Of the ones I've seen, Red State was so vastly superior to all of the others, I thought it was a different director. But apparently that one is not terribly well-liked by his fans.

Red State was very good! I do not understand why the man went from that to "Yoga Hosers" and Reboot. I will never understand that.

I looked up Kevin Smith's bio and some of the movie plots on Wikipedia and I'm just not interested in watching any of the films he made. In truth, I'm not interested in watching any movies anymore, ever. It just feels like a waste of time for me. So they are probably good movies but they would be wasted on me

Trust me, it's a whole different experience when you can hear what the characters are saying.

I never watched these movies. I remember when “Strike Back” came out though the advertising was huge and people were totally digging it.

FF to about 2006 and my gf heard me listening to King Diamond and wanted to show me the “Grandma what was it liiiiike?!” scenes and that did make me laugh. Never watched a whole movie though.

It's got more to do with being disappointed after watching movies I was told were realky funny/great. I remember warching The Hangover after being told it was really really funny and not laughing once. Then there were movies I wanted to be good and they sucked lizard balls. The House With A Clock in its Walls should have great but Jack Black

Oh damn right bro. I recall when the time travelling hot tub movie came out 10 years ago. Younger friend of mine and his younger friends came over (Kinda weird but no Michael Jackson shit. I hang out with people of all ages over 18) and were like hey man you will will dig this because 1980s or something. I was so fucking bored. Maybe half-way chuckled once. These guys are ROFL'ing though. Moments like that I have questioned like "Well am I just to old or is this shit just really fucking stupid?" It is usually the latter.

Reboot over Clerks II is the wrong opinion. It is so wrong I feel like it was wrong intentionally.

Jesus, Reboot over Red State, Mallrats and the first JSBSB is wrong.

It's a bad list!!

The best Kevin Smith movie is Clerks, WITH THE ORIGINAL ENDING. Only on DVD AFAIK. So much better than the one they went with.

Kevin Smith did a public appearance/interview after doing the movie Dogma. A (very small) group of people who probably never saw the film came out to picket a theater in New Jersey for showing the film. Smith out there and joined the picketers carrying a sign protesting its lack of respect for religion.

A reporter spotted him, recognized him and interviewed him. He claimed to be someone else and mentioned reasons that, like a typical ignorant protester, were not even in the film! The reporter covered it by saying she still thought it was director Smith (which it was).
Alan Francis wrote a book containing everything men understand about women. It consisted of 100 blank pages.
