Apple // Mockingboard Card for Audio

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

Had no idea this was a thing... https://www.reactivemicro.com/product/m ... ed-or-kit/

I've never opened my Apple, so I have no idea what the inside looks like for expansion cards. Huh.

EDIT: I thought it was called a "Mockingbird"! It was not. It's a "Mockingboard." I have edited the title.

Unfortunately that won't work on a IIc, only a IIe form factor. You need a Mockingboard 4c or an updated one.

Curses!! But thanks. I always have to remember that this stuff has a ton of "yes, buts". So it's something to get some day.

Then you must never use your apple.

Those things have their hoods open more than an old british sports car. I bought mine aeound 1986 off my uncle who bought it new the year before. Turned me off Apple forever. Went through no less than 4 disk controllers and several floppy drives in a year and for extra fun there was only one store to buy them which was over an hour drive away.

Oh wait. I did have to open it up for the flash media disk controller to work. I forgot.

It is a Mockingboard. Not a Mockingbird.

I am going to get one tomorrow for my Apple. Flack mentioned a Mockingboard 4C and I shall be looking for that.

Wait. The 4C is not a new card. It's a card that already existed.

Wait!!

My previous response might have been a little vague. No Apple expansion cards will work on the IIc, because the IIc has no expansion slots. Internal Apple cards will only work on the II/II+/IIe/IIgs. This includes the Mockingboard.

Someone recently made a clone of the Mockingboard that works on the IIc. It's called the Mockingboard 4c+ and sits (I believe) in between the CPU and the CPU socket.

You must never use the thing. My IIe always had the hood up, went through 3 disk controller cards in the first year. Total garbage.

1. You said that exact thing when this thread first started, old man. ;-P
2. Yes, I use it, why phrase it like that? Christ. I can guarantee you I "use" my Apple computer more than anyone you have ever or will ever meet in your entire life.
3. You can't easily expand the //c, so opening it up is not really a thing.

I do have a flash card solution in there, so floppy problems is not something I encounter.

Sorry, I'm still a bit bitter that I spent $3500 in today's dollars on something made so terribly, that's all.

The //c won't work with the Total Replay hard drive .hdv file either.

I think the answer is: I need a //e.

The //e is preposterously large, compared to the //c.

And I think I left the IIGS keyboard on my car when leaving the shop. I can't find it.

How is there an Apple ][ store still in existence?

I was able to get the BOOTI to start on the IIGS! Without a keyboard I can't configure it though.

I apparently did not leave the keyboard on my car's roof as I exited the store. I have no earthly idea where it could otherwise be.
