Ben would like me to get a Defender

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

In order to cheer Ben up, I am doing whatever he is saying. We seem to have come to this conclusion:

1) I am to sell Moon Patrol and Gauntlet II.
2) I am to get a Defender.

It really is the control scheme with Defender. I can play it on my Multi Williams machine, but the controls are for a generic fighter. NOT a Defender.

Ben might have other reasons for wanting us to do this. Maybe he is going to move to Colorado. Maybe he just wants to know that he can type some words into a box and things happen. Either way, once I sell off Moon Patrol and Gauntlet II, things will start to happen.

You are NOT getting a Defender?

Somewhere, a Lander just turned into a Mutant...

...and smiled.

:(

No. Not any time soon. Someday, yes. But I am off arcade games, new ones, for the immediate future.

I can play the game -- have I mentioned that the game is IN the arcade, for that non-emulated, real-processor Williams kit I have? Did I mention that?

Controls though.

But okay.

(But get it someday.)

Captain Kirk, I shall consider it!

If I get some advance warning that you are coming to Colorado again, then I'll bump this up.

That multi-Williams I bought has the ability to run Defender in either configuration -- either using the original control scheme with all the buttons or using a non-traditional-but-more-n00b-friendly joystick scheme.

Don't like the joystick controls. Actually either way I suck at it but that wont stop me from enjoying the attempt to defend the planet from the hordes. Now I want to see a video of someone really, really good at it like I remember seeing at USA
(a roller skating rink called United Skates of America)

This guy could collect all the humanoids under the ship and deposit them all in one spot. Freaking amazing.

Well, I didn't sell Gauntlet II, I gave it away.

There is a possible deal that will land a Defender my way tomorrow.

Living with it, Defender may be the best arcade game of all-time.

Or the best arcade game.

Thinking it might be behind Robotron but ahead of Ms. Pac.

Oh and I suck at it. 11,300 after 2 days.

Like all great games Defender is easy to play yet hard to master.

It's true. When I came home tonight I got to 15,00. These are baby scores.

Here is a photo.

While it is great that you have acquired a Defender cabinet, it is sad that you had the sell the sheetrock off your wall to afford it.

That's a beautiful thing.

You were right to have bought that.

I think it is a long term game. Especially since the minute something goes wrong with the power or the board, they both come out and that arcade-perfect Multi Williams board goes in.

I have to get over my fear of NOT saving enough humanoids. That is what stops me from playing it. I feel bad that I am so bad.
