Patty Flinger has been released! (Now includes source)

Post by Tdarcos »

In one day. I have created and implemented Jonsey's Patty Flinger, under the name of "Commander TDarcos' Patty Flinger"

It can be downloaded (334K) from http://in-the-matter-of.com/patty_flinger.zip and consists of the Hugo interpreter HEWIN, the program patty_flinger.hex, and patty_flinger.ifiction, an XML manifest for the program.

So let's see what you think. It is classified as a beta release because I have tested it but I can't be certain it's right.

A manifest?? Slow down, John Malt. Let's slow down a second and take a minute to digest the new game. Also, I was hoping you could save it and enter it into the Hugo Comp????

Well, if it's going to be released it still has to have beta testing. And I think it's supposed to have an Inform manifest under the "Treaty of Babel," it's simply an XML database describing the game, who wrote it, when it was released, how hard it is to do something irreparable ("Polite") that either fails the game or kills you, that sort of thing. It's 20 lines that describe the game.

I have enough trouble with my balls and my attempts to get my swollen scrotum to shrink to want you to be busting them. I have to sit on a fuckin' towel to raise them 4 inches so the fluid will drain out, for crissakes!

It's a big problem you get when you don't stand up much.

I don't know if you can afford it, but I'm considering going back and finishing the on-line interpreter, as difficult as these last two games are, I haven't had this much fun as I have in the last month, plus putting Patty Flinger out, literally, in one day (meaning a 24-hour period, not on one particular day). I started about 7 in the morning and got finished about 1:30 the next morning and that's including taking a couple of naps totalling about 5 hours during the period.

Part of the reason that it got done so fast was because I was fresh off doing Tripkey and I'd had a lot more practice from working on it. I realize just how much I'd gotten better from when I started when I went back and caught places where I'd originally written code like "I = I+1" and going in and changing them to "I++".
