[Poll] Best Shopping Bag/Container

Post by Tdarcos »

What was/is your favorite container for taking home stuff from shopping, usually grocery shopping but could be others like small items at Home Depot/Lowes, Target, etc.?

During the pandemic I've become a delivery convert. It's convenient! I might never switch back now. If I do ever go back to the devil's den, I'm definitely bringing a suitcase just to see how well that goes over. Can you imagine going to a business meeting, plopping your suitcase on the conference table, and opening it up to reveal a stack of like twenty oranges? "As you can see, I couldn't possibly bring the printouts today. It's errand day for God's sake!"

Except for the steel basket, I've used all of these at one time or another while shopping in a wheelchair. Might have found more things if I'd shopped in a store, but that's a different story.

I like a big reusable bag when I go to Aldi. I never buy more from there than will fit.

After that I actually prefer paper bags but very few people know how to pack them anymore so I don't even ask.

Really? I thought the prices are just cheaper because they have some but not many major brands and how they run the store with minimum cost to them. Not saying you are wrong, I just never heard this line before.

This item is two days old. It needs to move to the almost stale section for a big discount.

Jiz, your conclusion is correct, that is how Aldi operates. It just looks like it is "for the poor" because their prices are much better than typical supermarkets. If you routinely charge lower prices, you of course become a magnet for budget-conscious shoppers.

Aldi is a German company, and they use ruthless efficiency: Fewer hours (typically 10-10); smaller stores (less expensive to operate); limited selection with a lot of house brands; paying employees premium wages (in Prince George's County, Maryland, where the minimum wage is $10.25 an hour, they pay trainee cashiers $12.50, and experienced ones $13.75, paying higher wages saves money because you're not having the higher cost of a place that churns people and has staff turnover rates exceeding 100%).
