I think there's, ahhh, a few missing from that list now.

Oh wait I re-read it and it specifically says something about squeezing a trigger. Where were you in 1990 when I was writing that, Commander?
You may have begun writing it in 1990, but obviously it was added to over time.... I wasn't active into BBSing until at least 2 years later.

I'm guessing #3 on the list was the clue to understanding his response.

1. You're no longer a moderator here, you can't ban me. *
2. I was thinking of Michael Raugh's board; I think you guys both used the same name. I had forgotten about yours.
4. I think Michael saw this board, although without posting, A few years ago he sent me an e-mail to say I was the Ray Gordon of this board. That hurt.
5. Speaking of hurt, when I was originally calling your board, I was in Silver Spring [Maryland] and your number was local to me. When I moved temporarily about 7 miles to my sister's place in Arlington [Virginia] (but took my computer and modem with me), your number was a toll call, but toll numbers in the 301 area code that were part of the Washingon Regional Dialing areA had no "dial 1 first" warning for area code 703 callers and I didn't know it was about 6c a minute. My sister was pissed I'd run up about $50 in toll charges that month.

* Edit: This rminds me of an episode of Family Ties when something they said hit me like a ton of bricks. The parents do not approve of something Mallory did, so the father says to her, "That's it, little lady, you're grounded." and she responds with, "You can't ground me, I'm over 18." and walks off. He says, "Darn, that used to work so well whn she was younger." I hadn't even thought about it; they have no control over her at all once she turned 18.

Back then, I would have been as clulesds about carpal tunnel syndrome as you were. At that time I was working as a telephone operator at a well-known federal government agency, and a member of The Bull and Finch Pub, the BBS where Ben was, IIRC co-sysop. Remember, in 1990 the Internet was 5 years from commercial availability.

It's about lifting the gun, Paul, not squeezing the trigger.

Is it too late to pick a different target?

Jonsey, in that fictional "where are they now" recap of members if this BBS when it was on dialup, of the part I did read - it started to get uninteresting after a while - one of the characters was going to use an AK47 to kill Bill Gates - I wasn't exactly sure why - but that their carpal tunnel syndrome made them unable to fire. As a member of this current incarnation of this BBS who does have Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - it's one of the things that qualified me for disability back in 2004 - I can say that it does not work that way, and would have no effect on the ability to shoot a weapon. Carpal tunnel affects the wrist, not the fingers.

You may remember back in 2018 I took the classes to apply for a Maryland Concealed Handgun Permit, which requires a shooting proficiency test, using an entire box of ammo, 50 rounds. I got a score of perfect. Having carpal tunnel will not prevent you from shooting a gun.

On the other hand - or maybe the same one - there is a separate, unrelated form of arthritis called, ironically, "trigger finger," which can flare up temporarily and cause fingers to lock in unbendable position. I've found warm water works to relieve this condition when it happens.
