And also has absolutely nothing to do with a man driving or not driving a Jeep into a crowd of Black Lives Matter supporters than brandishing if not firing, a semi-automatic rifle.

Donald Trump broke The Washington Post's lie meter when it recorded one more confirmed lie after the 9,999 previous confirmed lies he told since being sworn in. And that was several months ago.

The amount of disinformation being slung around is simply gobsmacking. Since so many crazy, absurd things have been happening since Trump took office, it's getting harder to tell at a glance which news stores are fake anymore. I never post anything unless it is from a very reputable news source. Otherwise I have to triple-check.

OK, the plot thickens: there were a couple of gun incidents in Eugene on the 31st during the protests. The first one involved two guys, a 6-year old, an unknown substance, a handgun, and a Jeep. Handgun Guy has been identified as Nathan Allen Huddleston which sounds like exactly the kind of alias Brandon Battlehart might have used but that has not been confirmed at this juncture. Later there was another incident with a Jeep and a dude with a semiautomatic rifle which I guess could have been Battlehart also. The bit about the car being driven into the march seems to be embellished/exaggerated...at least it doesn't appear anyone was hit by the Jeep. The tweet seems to be way ahead of the news in identifying the man involved in the second incident. I was too hasty in calling the whole thing a hoax, but I'm still quite skeptical of some aspects of the story.

The moral I'm taking away from all this is "Beware of Eugenians bearing Jeeps."

Clearly, it's the Bowling Green Massacre all over again. Same example, even the same number of dead and wounded. Look it up on the link on Wikipedia. It was terrible, some said it was unbelievable.

Are we sure this actually happened? You would think it would have made a bigger splash in the news somehow, especially since two weeks have gone by since it allegedly occurred. When I couldn't verify the details, I thought at first that someone just really disliked Brandon Battlehart (perfectly understandable considering that's an awesome name anyone would envy), but then I noticed the same post on Brandon's company's Instagram. It wasn't the last post on his gram either. Suspicions were raised. So it's some sort of self-promotional terrorism hoax -- that's what we have to deal with at this fragile, chaotic moment in our nation's history? Maybe it's a joke that just didn't quite work...we've all been there. It's just that most of us are able to make terrible jokes without taking credit for nonexistent acts of terrorism in the process. Is this the type of stunt that could possibly get someone in some legal trouble, Paul?

My guess is Brandon Battlehart will be going back to using Brandon Matthew Davis any day now.

I live in an adjoining city called Springfield which has no sort of downtown, so I'd have joined the march in Eugene.

Bit surreal.

Brandon Battlehart, who operates an online patriot clothing and merchandise website, exited the vehicle and produced a semi-automatic rifle while engaging the marchers.
