To quote John McClane in Die Hard, "Fuckin' California!" I can believe there, and New York City are the sort of places where this sort of thing can exist.

Not only have I never heard of such a thing, if the wait staff had done that to me, they'd get no tip, and I might have complained to the manager if they hadn't said this was their practice. If they did say that, I probably wouldn't have gone there. There are way too many nice places with good food to put up with being insulted.

That's not the topic. But I will say, there was a sandwich joint in Rosslyn, VA in the late eighties which was a spitting image of the Soup Nazi except with sandwiches. Everyone's lined up around the corner because they're the best sandwiches to ever exist, and you did your nervous sidestep like George when it was your turn, and don't fuck up or you're gonna get an earful.

Oreste's! That was it.

His first step was to slather each side of the hoagie bun with mayo. I remember one time the guy in front of me said "and no butter!". Which he meant the mayo. I almost just bailed cuz this guy was about to get his whole life destroyed and it was too painful to watch.

Also not the topic, but we're topic-fluid.

Shopsin's in NYC. If you were in any way slightly irritating, or if you just looked like a cunt, Kenny (RIP) would throw you the fuck out.

The wait stuff can be surly as fuck if you ask for anything even slightly different on your food or drink than normal.
Okay, conceptually different but for our purposes we'll count it. But now I'm sad.

I think there was a place in Disney that my brother visited that was like that. Probably not as rude though.

If I was any lighter I'd be a bulb on Tom Edison's workbench.

I knew of (and had been to) Dick's. Also, during our recent NC trip, we went to "BOB'S" (capitalized because it actually stands for B(something) Outer Banks S(something)) which has a sign out front saying "Eat and get the hell out!". And when you get your check, the waitress thanks you for coming and then says "get the hell out". But they're very nice the rest of the time, so I don't think they really meant it.

Aardvark, it's just for fun, for the tourists. Lighten up a little, and please don't delete this post.

How do they stay in business? Sounds like a one time visit and that's it

I think everybody knows of these places, especially Dick's. Just reading through the descriptions of some of these places re-enforces my decision never to visit one. Not my bag.

Myrtle Beach. Restaurant called Dicks Last Resort . They would walk up to your table and say things like “what the hell do you want now?” Overpriced food too. The only way I know this is through a rich chick I dated in HS.

Greensboro NC. Jack Astor’s. Kinda of the same concept from what I understood from a fellow community college student. He did say the food was really good and he had a great time.

I never went to such a place. I feel like if I want to go somewhere to eat and drink and maybe be talked to rudely or insulted, I would rather go to a comedy club.

I went to a restaurant in California about 15 years ago where the theme was that the wait staff insulted the customers.

Is there anyone that HAS or has not heard of this? How famous is this? Tdarcos, you ever hear of this as a thing?
