I buy the bulk packs of plain white crew socks, as close to 100 percent cotton as I can find. Then I dye them in a variety of bold colors. Since 1980 or so I have never matched my socks, except at weddings. Like Stephen Wright said: "some people match by color, I match by thickness."
They usually last a year to 2 years before the holes start showing up, then I toss them.
