Whoa!

I go away for a few days and Parrish takes an extended vacation?

Fantastic! I only wish he'd taken a few of you with him when he left.

Needless to say, I'll be appearing here in greater fashion until he returns. Deal with it, bitches.

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Fri Jul 11, 2003 9:41 pm

I know Parrish is out there, reading this, smirking.

May God damn you, you miserable bastard.

God damn you.

The truth.com is rumored to be controlled by a big cigarette company. I find this really ironic.
"TOBACCO IS WACKO... if you're a teen." Way to take a frigging stand there.
The tobacco companies were putting some ads almost as bad as these out. They in essence were not trying to stop children from smoking. They wanted kids to think the ads were stupid. The Truth does the exact opposite of these ads. They make them too harsh. People don't pay attention to the truth ads either because they are too annoying and pushy. They force the information on to the public. The public turns a deaf ear.

Tobacco companys are smart and evil.

here's a little light reading

These were paper and ink things done maybe 1800-1900s. Back in the day is such an ambiguous term.

I dunno, but there is currently someone doing "art" in comic book ads for the anti-tobacco defamation league trying to target teens. One such clever catchphrase is "TOBACCO IS WACKO... if you're a teen." Way to take a frigging stand there. WE'RE ONLY TARGETTING TEENS, ergo, WE DEFINITELY HAVE THE MORAL HIGH GROUND hurrrrr. Pussies.

And the "art" that goes along with the ad is TERRIBLE. There is seriously no talent to it whatsoever. It's always some creepy-looking pseudo-human with a giant head and body parts made up from clip art taken from other sources (in other words, one hand comes from a "real person." the other holding the cig is crappily drawn, the shirt is from some 1970s sipping whiskey ad in "Oui," etc. etc.). That's what happens when kids don't get told often enough that they are worthless and that they will never amount to anything. Coddling teenagers when they are in Drawing & Painting in high school may make everybody wear a permanent smile, but it's useless at driving anybody to do anything worth looking at. I wish my own art instructors were harsher growing up, that way Usenet wouldn't have initially been such a cold electroshock shower.

But yeah. Anti-tobacco ads have done nothing but make me and thousands of others want to take up smoking.

On this note does anyone know who did all the anti-alcohol art back back in the day? It was stuff like a skeleton being poured vodka and what not.

Maybe it's Legionnaire's Disease I picked up from being in a room with a poorly-ventilated air conditioning all day, but I think Roody is telling Ben that he's got a drinking problem in this post.
Nah, alcohol is no demon. It's the SELF-LOATHING and the FEAR and the UNCERTAINTY that are the demons.

Alcohol is merely a tool, like screwdriver, or a rusty nail, or a Colt .45.

Not that I won't miss you, pinback, but if that's what you have to do then we can't argue with it.

by Roody_Yogurt » Fri Jul 11, 2003 12:24 am

Let the "magic" begin!

by Freddie » Fri Jul 11, 2003 12:22 am

I finally feel like I now have some breathing room.

by pinback » Fri Jul 11, 2003 12:08 am

Know what?

Changed my mind again.

This is my last post until Monday, July 21, 2003.

Party on.

Glad to hear it... Get those demons under control, pinback. I daresay we have another... UPDATE WEEK that I will actually partake in?

by pinback » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:55 pm

I've got things to do, don't you worry about that, slappy.

Tell you what. Know what? Fuck this poll.

I will be taking a break from this BBS, starting on Sunday, July 13, and ending on Sunday, July 20. I can't promise I won't read what's going on, but I can promise I won't post anything, either as myself, or as a gimmick, or anything.

Call it an "experiment".

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:39 pm

Where will you go for that week?

by pinback » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:29 pm

You don't care? You DON'T CARE?!?

That's no fun, man. Can't anyone here get a little enthusiasm going for something?

Christ, even Straw voted "no". That's the most depressing thing I've ever heard.

by Roody_Yogurt » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:28 pm

Well, sure, if that's what you want, pretend I changed my vote. I don't really care, but I think that people should be doing what they feel is right. While I'm more inclnied to think that it's better to get all the shit out now and try to find a balance naturally, if you think it's better to go away for a bit, go ahead.

by pinback » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:16 pm

I swear, you would ALL be better off if I took a week off from here. This place would be better, you would be better, and when I came back, I would be better.

I don't know why six of you are unable to see that.

Jonsey, is there a way for them to change their votes? They really need to change their votes.

I am the visionary here. I know what has to happen.

I might just make it happen regardless.

by Herman Killville » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:12 pm

I agree. I don't think Ben properly anticipated some people's delight with him in comedy, and dissatisfaction with him a la pathos.

We need a sort of "Pinback Monthly Charmer" or something that collects all his happy posts and keeps them as a seperate database from his nasty ones.

by looper » Thu Jul 10, 2003 11:09 pm

What if we want to vote one way for good pinback and another way for caustic pinback? :(
