We use VOIP phone service here at Promedica Aelington. Office and residents, we're on a PBX so we can call any number in the building by dialiing just the last four digits. (Since this is a medical facility, an outside line is not accessed by dialiing 9 first, but 8.)
I was catching a YouTube video when it stopped and showed a throbber - the spinning wait cursor - in the background, which means slow or no Internet. Go down to the right bottom of the screen where the task bar shows the globe with a prohibition symbol, meaning the SSID I'm using has no Internet. So I check the SSID list. It is empty except for one I do not recognize. Probably a Hotspot. There are normally about 6 SSIDs from this building alone; 2 of them just for the phone system.
I suspect there is no phone service. I check and confirm by picking up the phone. No dial tone, of course, but what I did get was something I did not expect: a female voice saying "Check to see if your Internet is down."
So that means there is no means of communication: no phone, no Internet, no E-mail, only... Mobile phones. And my SafeLink phone gets 25 gb of free data each month, which rolls over on the 15th, so I might as well use it.
So here I am. When I mention it to Leslie, I say I'm going to try calling the main number to see what happens. He predicts it might blow up. I said fireworks would be a nice change, but I thought it was unlikely. I call the main number, 703-379-7209, and it's an anticlimax. Busy, just busy.
So I got on my phone so I could post my story here.
