I would like to apologize to everyone here. Part of the confusion is I was replyinng to myself!

I\ll explain why, here. I'm sorry I messed up. I hope that I do better in the future, and this should be my last posting in this thread.

This post contained incorrect information, so I edited it.

Powershell gave me some nonsense about how it wasn't going to run "hc.exe" which is the one program I need a Windows shell to run, so I am OUT on Powershell.

The fact that you got cool retro term going on Windows gives me hope and promise.

Also, I got cool-retro-term running on Windows:

You are the only one in this entire thread who brought up the term "CMD", though you are correct in that it led to confusion, that being your own.

Re: Windows Terminal programs

I was misunderstanding you. When you said 'windows teminal programs' and used ''monochrome green screen terminals' you're referring to 'mainframe terminal' programs' like IBM 3270 text terminals as connected to IBM 360 and 370 mainframes.

Have you tried TN3270 ? It's the PC client program to connect to a (real or simulated) 3270 host. For real, you have to have access to an actual mainframe.

For virtual 3270, download the Hercules emulator, that pretends to be a 24-bit IBM 360 or UNIVAC 90/60 mainframe, a 31-bit IBM 370, Fujitsu FS, or Unisys 90/70 mainframe. You can also download the TK3 MVS six pack and have an actual IBM MVS 3.8 with TSO software package, something that cost about $100,000 in 1980.

i have used the TK3 package on Hercules. It runs under exactly like the old 'green screen' dayd of mainsframe computing as to make me recall many fond memories.

If you had said 'mainframe terminal program' I'd have known what you were referring to. I knew what you were asking for had to be something else. But calling it CMD.EXE when there already is a terminal program will lead to confusion.

You were the one who said that. And that is not the topic. We are not talking about CMD.EXE. You have lost track of the topic.

We're not talking about CMD, Paul.
Then what the fuck does "opening a new CMD window" refer to?

When I change colors, if that window is closed, opening a new CMD window returns the new color settings.

So, I downloaded and installed it. And I set the retro effect.

Now I know why I discard anything Microsoft did. I made the changes, saved em, quit the new Terminal and restarted and it didn't use any of the settings I saved. I appreciate everyone's help here and yes, I will figure it out, but Jesus Tinoco, it's exhausting trying to use their in house stuff.

It says something that I never considered an in house solution by Microsoft themselves.

Perhaps it is time to bury the hatchet and give it a try.

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for. It sounds like you want an MSDos window in greem on black, white on green, gold on black, or white on gold, something like that. If so, I know where to find that. But, what it sounds like you're asking for is way too simple. So, I suspect I am misreading you. But, I'll give you what I think you're asking for, although the answer is so obvious I must be misunderstanding you.

Challenge accepted!

Press Win+R
Type CMD
press enter
Left click on top mleft corner of window (title bar icon)
Click on "properties"
Click on Colors
Click on Screen Text
Click on the first volor bpx in the strip of color samples
Click on Screen Background
Click on the seventh color. This is gold.
Click OK
You now have black on gold terminal screen.

For black on green, select the next to last color (white) for screen text, color 2 for background.

iOS has this: https://github.com/Swordfish90/cool-retro-term

For Amber and monochrome green screen terminals. For the life of me I can't find something similar for Windows.

Therefore, I must conclude that such a program does not exist. Thanks for reading this thread.
