There is. On threads/boards where editing is enabled, the post can only be changed within about 5 minutes of hitting the 'submit' button. Editing does not increase the time. It's good for making minor corrections where you said someting and mispelld something or forgot to put in some and left them out.

Edit: the last sentence was deliberately mangled for demonstration. it should end "minor corrections where you said something and misspelled something or forgot to put in some words or left them out."
