Ain't gonna lie.. slightly interested.

This Half-Life Alyx VR shit is still mind-blowing. When I got to the point where you get to pick up a gun and load a clip into it I tried scratching my head with the gun much like I do with the NES Zapper and SMS Phaser out of habit (but never when shooting real guns on a range obviously) only for it to feel really weird there was nothing physically there. IMMERSION!

Virtual Reality

My nephew got into VR about 3 years ago or more. At the time I had a lot of interest but the prices were wild, especially considering I needed to build a new PC last year. VR has honestly interested me since Lawnmower Man.. but we all know how dinky that shit was back then.

Apparently he got burnt out on the whole thing at least for now and let me borrow his "old" Oculus Rift and a Meta Quest something that is newer. I dove in with the older one first. Had some hiccups getting set up (this old headset DEMANDED a red USB3 port via the Meta software) but once the Meta/occulus software was setup in a few minutes, the Steam VR stuff was even easier to set up. Was completely blown away just being in a "virtual room" for the first time. Showed it to Lyndsay who was also amazed by it.

I bought the Half-Life Alyx game (on sale for 19$!) once I got it all to work, but it wasn't until today I actually got to try it. The feeling of being so immersed in a game that you don't know where the fuck you are once you get out of it has always been a magical one to me since the 80s playing arcade games. This experience takes that to the extreme. Every time I remove the headset, I'm surprised at where I am or facing in the actual physical room. Especially when there are table like surfaces to interact with and you accidently touch one at the same time as grasping a game object. It's fucking wild!

Being extra careful not to trip or roll over the cable (apparently they are super rare now to the Rift) and have been super careful about my surroundings. Only knocked over my vape and empty beer can so far! Anyone got any suggestions for other games to try? Apparently Resident Evil 7 only had native VR for Playstation but there are mods for Steam. The first one I tried made one lens blink like crazy until I quit and uninstalled.
