I have three of these Zoom dynamic mics. They're about $70. It's what I've been recording all my podcasts with for ~5 years and I don't have any problems. It's XLR so you'll need an audio interface. I have mine going through a USB mixing board that has a few knobs and I never touch them.

The thing I love about dynamic mics is that they pic up what's right in front of them and not much more. I liked my Blue Yeti but I got all sorts of echo with it and it picked up cars outside my window and people outside. With a dynamic mic I don't even turn off my AC or ceiling fan anymore.

If things are crackling and popping it sounds like either the signal is too hot or there's something wrong with the mic, connection, or cable.

Check Ableton's audio buffer size setting. Increase it until it stops crackling. If it doesn't stop crackling, then something else is at fault.
Thanks! I remember.... needing to check that at one point. Or being aware of it. But you have a habit of giving good advice on this BBS. Honestly, there should be subscriptions to this BBS and all the money should just go to you for your advice and help. :)

Get a nice Shure mic and plug it into that mixer. Then use the USB interface into your PC and you'll get great sound

In the past, I had a "Blue Yeti" microphone. It cost 130 bucks. I looked up what I said about it at the time.
*I do not understand why I am the only person in the world to buy a $130 Blue Yeti mic and the fucking thing crackles and pops AND doesn't start transmitting sound as soon as I speak.*
At the time I said that, Flack said that it wasn't really the microphone, it was how he recorded people over Skype. Flack is also a really kind person. Maybe it was that! I don't want to buy a new Blue Yeti. I gave the one I had to my brother. He hasn't used it, I am sure I could get it back in October. but still.

There was an Amazon sale a few years ago and I bought a replacement mic, but it has that connector where it just goes into a ... fuck, I don't know what it's called. The audio control box, my U-Phoria. I did try to record vocals for a Beaver song and it crackled and popped and sounded like shit. Is that Ableton? Probably! But still.

For Topic Lords, I was on my work's Mac. Obviously, I don't hear myself on it, but everyone else comes through GREAT at work. I had to assume I did too. But I sound different than the other two people on Topic Lords. Enough is enough. Every single other person on the internet has figured this out. Why are these things so difficult for me.
