P'raps we ARE the next step in evoloution..

Think about it. Using only electrons to transmit and receieve messages. No physical forms (like ghosts! OOOoooooOOO!)
Each message is just a pattern of dots. If you stick your eyeball right next to the monitor you cannot read the messages anymore as they become just light and dark spots. Yet these dots communicate ideas and (recipies) to others worldwide. Two hundred years ago this would have been witchcraft and we'd all be toasted like smores at the stake. now it's an everyday thing.

OK, with sites like Fark.com, every freak that is born is going to make headlines... provided that someone is actually doing the announcing. You need a little bit of a free press, but once its out there, everyone on the Internet hears about it.

So when we have a two-headed baby -- like we did recently! -- it makes headlines.

My theory is this, in terms of where they come from: we will always have a certain percentage of mutated babies, let's call it 0.001% or something. So the more people you have making children, the more odd births there will be. However, I think there are two factors that stop them from getting noticed:

1) Lack of a free press. Does this exist in China?

2) Religion telling you to immediately drown the baby and never speak of it again. Does this happen in South America? Anywhere?

3) Lack of any sort of press. Africa?
