How much time does a global search/replace take, versus not letting us post as guests?
There may be a program that inserts these mods each time you upgrade, but the thing with upgrades is that you do not get a new version of every file each time. I imagine if you are running more than a few of them things quickly turn to spaghetti.

Yes, I am no longer apologizing to guests and lurkers. They now have the ability to apologize... to me!!!

We may not need it here. I can finally be heard!

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Tue Apr 25, 2006 9:52 pm

Shit, I left myself three days for this. Better get crackin'!

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Sun Apr 23, 2006 9:56 pm

Fuck vBulletin, I am buying a house.

Guest posting will be live by Friday, when I change "posting.php" to a dynamically-selected alias of someone who got driven off here in a weepy, vaginal huff.

I SAID GOOD DAY

vBulletin is $160.

I just spent $156 on renewing the hosting for this place for a year. I'll probably run banner ads on the main site until

1) It's obvious that I'm never, ever going to generate $160 or

2) I generate $160.

I'm also trying to redo the way the main site looks, but no promises.

We're all very confident in your ability to get this state of affairs straightened out in a timely, efficient manner.

Ah, shit, April Fools was yesterday. Sorry, everyone.

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Sun Apr 02, 2006 11:27 pm

For now, however, I'd like to move to the new version of phpBB and rename posting.php by the end of the week.

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Sun Mar 26, 2006 8:59 pm

It's just a lack of free time. Four months is how long I'd give it before I even begin to address this.

Is VBullaton just something that happens to other people?

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Tue Mar 21, 2006 12:07 pm

I said it, Lysander, because I've always hated this software.

I just turned off guest posting everywhere. The assholes had been sending fucking XXX messages out and that's going to get the site marked as "adult" on the various Big Brother programs out there. Fuck this shit.

I went to download all the files for phpBB last night, but my crappy FTP program fucking crashes if you try to download directories with directories in them. Jesus Christ.

I will be seriously investigating a forum software switch after April 1st. I was going to think about Invision, but I hear that people aren't stoked with that software, either. You can all yukk it up if I go with this, the worst available option, in the meantime.

by Lysander » Sun Mar 12, 2006 12:33 pm

Someone should go use the search function to dig back into the past and see how long ago it's been since RobB first said he was going to change the board software.

Not me, but someone.

Well, that went over like a led zeppelin. Hahah, phpBB... great job. Only thing I can think of is that the template I use has different settings. I'll give that a shot, but if it doesn't work I am switching software. This remains a fucking joke.

Single-use spammer accounts vs. Single-use gimmick accounts

FIGHT

by Lysander » Sat Mar 11, 2006 7:57 pm

Oh, I dunno, about 150 of them.

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Sat Mar 11, 2006 6:25 pm

Which ones are there that you think are still spammy?

by Lysander » Sat Mar 11, 2006 6:04 pm

Any chance of deleting the bogus spam accounts? It's cool to look like we have 200 registered users and all, but it's so far from truth that it pains me.

I made a change that will hopefully stop spammers from registering accounts. If it works I will be implementing it to "posting.php".

by Lysander » Mon Feb 20, 2006 10:47 pm

No.

The reason why spammers hit us so hard is because for whatever reason our Google rating is high. So if we link to them their Google rating gets higher. Fuck that.

by pinback » Mon Feb 20, 2006 9:47 pm

Everyone but you likes and has fun with the spam.

We enjoy making witty quips and rejoinders.

You squelch our creativity.

So really, the spam is not much unlike any other new poster here.

Why don't you apologize to the spammers a few times, and then we'll all truly be home.
