Nintendo reported that it spent roughly ¥15.7 billion ($127 million) buying back some 1.38 million shares of its own stock during the period November 1 to November 22, 2002. Companies sometimes do stock buybacks as a way of pumping up their stock price. Since the Nikkei has pounded good companies and bad ones alike, some of them may see buybacks as the best shot at reversing course or at least slowing the freefall.
Konami joined Nintendo in the buyback club, repurchasing 11,750 of its own shares at a cost of ¥11.7 million ($94,000) during the period November 1 to November 30, 2002.
Do they trade on the American stock market at all? I have no idea, but I suspect not. I really gotta find a way to get in with some of this. I (retardedly) bought a little bit of Take Two Interactive stock. Well, the buying of it was not retarded, as it went up $4/share since I bought it, but I did not really buy enough to make a profit unless the stock price flat-out doubled or something. Fuck beans, of course, but fuck me as well. If Nintendo stock is so low that they are buying it themselves, then that's enough cause for me to want to get in on the action.
