Have you ever stepped on a slug in your bare feet? I did that when I was eleven. It was pretty fucking gross.

There was a fucking snake in the grass when I went to mow it today. I think I'm good with surprise snakes for a little while.

It was a garter snake. Utterly harmless. It was also frightened. No confrontation was going to happen. I even think that it had a pair of those clattering dentures to fully drive home the fact that it was a tad unsettled. But much in the same way that you can't help but think there's something to this God thing when you step outside on a post-rainy day and see a rainbow (come on! That shit's SO made up) you can't help but look at a snake slither out of your yard and into a hedge without fully, completely and totally buying into evolution. Nobody with feet was going to make it out of the lawnmower's path at that speed.

So anyway, I'll be moving every day until it snows from here on out. Bring on winter!
