Good news with PinMAME

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Mon Sep 18, 2006 12:05 am

I downloaded 700 MB of Pinball ROMs and the latest version of PinMAME. The first two games I tried: Black Knight and Baby Pac -- didn't work. This is a huge win for the PinMAME team, as they have demonstrated the kind of amateur-level software engineering practices that the MAME dev team itself would be quite proud of.

Truthfully, I was a little worried when I thought about the word "MAME" being attached to this project. What if I could play games? What if I didn't have to worry about getting the latest and most compatible batch of ROMs for games that were 20 years old? I think I can sleep a restful, easy slumber knowing that PinMAME is just as incompetently put together as MAME is.

Whew! I think I'm going to not play the Creature from the Black Lagoon next!

(The best part is that Pinball companies should give this away and not even bother to put a time limit on it. Why? Because about five minutes is the maximum amount of fun you can have with pinball games on your PC. If anyone did find enjoyment doing it that way they would instantly want to purchase the real hardware proper. Oh well. In an angry universe, the word "MAME" is a name I can trust.)
