In answer to Jonsey's Reception question....

There is a special HD receiver that Directv offers. It's around $400 for one that has a built in Tivo. The regular HD box is usually like 100? I'm not sure on that one. Then the subsciption has to include the HD channels, which is usually some sort of premium pricing. I believe Directv has around 20 channels in h-def? Again, not too sure since we have cable. I am by no means an expert and technology could have changed in the last few years since I did any research. My projection HD has lasted for 6 years and I love it, even though it's a tad big. Hope all this helps you.

Did you get the info you needed? Newegg is the best on-line retailer out there, so if you found a good deal with them, go for it. I guess it is up to you if you think four years out of a plasma TV is worthwhile or not. I'm stunned they die so early.

I thought I knew nothing about modern-day TVs. I thought they passed me by! Let's go.... into the numbers!!!
savvyraven wrote:It all depends on what your needs are for a tv and where it will be located. In my experience, the plasmas need to be kept out of direct light because there will be a glare.
This I knew! I asked my brother this and he said it wouldn't be a problem. Luckily, in the town he lives in (in western NY) it's almost always overcast. Excellent!

Plasmas only last about 3-4 years.
This I did not know.

DPI's are ok too, and usually cheaper (although, you can't hang those on a wall).
Last I knew, my brother kept two things on his wall: his softball and football plaques and the business cards of several reputable bail bondsmen. Ha! Ha ha!

Either one will have the glare issues.
Funnily enough, so does my brother!

Audience: laughs

On both types, if you only have standard reception, you won't notice that much of a difference until you get HD Tv reception. So in a nutshell, if you are spending the extra money for a better tv get the better cable as well. If it's just for gaming-get the Plasma :)
How do you get HD TV reception? I know nothing about this. Like for instance I have Directv. Does that come with a package I can subscribe to, to get this high definition stream?

Yes, preferably one who already has a big-screen HD TV.

Worked for me, anyhows.

This is a sore subject with me, but here goes...

Don't forget "Just wow." You have to do the whole thing for full indignant effect.
So the title text for at least one of your girlfriend's websites is "Wow. Just wow." Who put that in there, you or her?
Me.
