There's that theory.
Which, I must say, appeals to me.
There's also the theory that Scotch is rather good (although I don't care for Glenfiddich, m'self), while chartreuese is Just Plain Nasty (although it does make a good digestif;
Makes sense as well. While we're on the topic of Scotch, and since I'm such a blank sheet in this regard, is there anything you'd recommend I look out for in future trips to the distiller? Wild Turkey will be on the short list, of course.

And yeah, after having tasted both, I'm not too overwhelmed with either. The Scotch is generally agreeable, but has kind of a corky aftertaste - which could have to do with the fact that I kept it lying in the drawer, inadvertently letting the cork get soaked all the time, so maybe I shouldn'd do that. The Chartreuse on the other hand, while much too sweet for my taste also sports a kind of mildly offensive soapy aroma that almost makes me wonder whether it has been fucked with.

As far as keepin the secret goes, I feel emboldened by the fact that the pungent aroma of the bottle of Pastis that I finished 3-4 weeks ago still prominently lingers in the office, leading everybody to admire the thoroughness with which the janitor disinfected window, carpet, etc.

Not that many people come visit me anyways, but still. So, thanks for the benevolent response, and if any of you ever finds themselves in *cough*Newark*cough*, feel free to stop by for a stiff one.

There's also the theory that Scotch is rather good (although I don't care for Glenfiddich, m'self), while chartreuese is Just Plain Nasty (although it does make a good digestif; after some meal when you're all "Ugggggggh," have a shot of chartreuese and it kinda cuts through the grease and makes you feel better).

I suggest taking them both home, and keeping a bottle of vodka in your desk drawer (if you want your alcoholism to stay relatively secret, since vodka has less smell), or if you don't care about keeping a secret, a bottle of something manly, like WIld Turkey.

As far as appreciation of the higher-octane alcoholica go, I'm not exactly what you would call distinguished. Thus, some groveling before the assembled esteemed drunkards in exchange for some well-meaning advice is in order.

Yesterday I managed to frivolously acquire two specimens. A bottle of Glenfiddich (purported to be 18 years old if one can believe that) -- for the sole reason that it was the only single malt available in this godforsaken excuse for a teenage maltshop that I happened to find myself in. Furter, one bottle of Chartreuse, since I always wanted to find out what the hell Ricky Lancelotti meant when he crowed "Well, my dandruff is loose/An' my breath is chartreuse" in '73, on FZ's 50/50. Not a good reason, but it'll have to pass for lack of a better one.

Anyway, now I'm faced with a difficult decision: Which one of the two do I keep in my office, and which one do I take home? If it helps, I don't plan on sharing either in either place, as such is my social life. The one at work would be mostly for those moments when there's a report overdue, or some other kind of deadline has just whooshed over my head (such as the renewal of my car registration and insurance, for instance). The one at home would be mostly to fall asleep quickly.

I'd tend to keep the whisky at work, but will of course bow to the superior sophistication gracing these sacred if virtual premises.

Cheers!
