I've met him a couple times! I meet so few famous people I am going to namedrop their names as much as humanly possible. He is preposterously nice. He could be a lot less nice and people would still say he was a good guy, I mean.

Typically the subdivisions of a country are prefects or provinces. A "State" historically was a country or it's government, not a subdivision of a country. If you look at any treaty, like the Geneva Conventions or the Convention Against Torture, the coutries that accede to the treaty are "States Parties" and countries in general are "States."

Canada's Government Falls

The government of Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has been ordered dissolved by motion of Parliament on the grounds of Contempt of Parliament, the first time this has happened in the history of Canada.

The dissolution technically does not occur until after Mr. Harper goes to see the Governor General.

The dissolution occurs because the government lost a vote of confidence in the Canadian legislature 156-145. Mr. Harper will have to call for new elections.
