I decided to splurge today and buy both the Target American Potato Salad and the Mustard Potato Salad, usually referred to as German Potato Salad. The American is a white colored potato salad, the mustard is, of course, yellow.
First, technically it's not "Target" potato salad, it's "Market Pantry" although that's a distinction without a difference. Market Pantry is one of Target Corporation's
house brands, and both packages indicate they're distributed by Target Corporation.
The two are basically almost identical in terms of taste, the American potato salad using mayonaise as the sauce and the mustard potato salad, well, three guesses what they use for sauce. They both use red potatoes for the main ingredient, so the potato portion will basically taste the same, it's the sauce that makes the difference.
The mustard is just a bit "spicier" than the American, and thus I'm giving it a slight edge on taste, but both are quite tasty and either would make an excellent selection as a side dish or as part of a picnic setup.
Both sell for $4.99 in the 3 pound tub.
