Is the cost problem because of the cost to renew the domain name or cost of hosting? Can't help you with the domain renewal but I can recommend something for cheap hosting. I use KVCWebHosting, which has a number of very inexpensive hosting plans. They have a fairly nice unlimited hosting with a small text ad on screen for a one-time payment of $20. (They also have some cheaper plans but for a typical website using a database they wouldn't be enough.)
I'd say their service is about as good as GoDaddy, but, then again, it ain't that hard to run a web server if you at least make a reasonable effort.
For someone having multiple domains, as I do, they have a very good deal, ad-free standard hosting, if you take it for 3 years, you can get the K level service, which allows 50 domain names to be used with it, and it costs $70 for a 3 year contract, or about $1.89 a month. This is the plan I purchased, and it's about 1/2 the price of GoDaddy, whose least expensive hosting plan is about $3.75 a month on a 3-year contract.
Ben, if you're having trouble right now or you're short, I'll be happy to loan you a couple of subdirectories (that's how you host separate web site) and you can stuff both domains into individual sites. When you want to move it you can use FTP any time to take files on or off. I think I'm only using about 20 of the alternate domain names that can be added, and my account allows 50, so I have plenty of extra slots left if you need a couple or perhaps 3 or 4.
Please excuse the over-line limit posting but I felt this was on-topic and it is an emergency.
