Unfortunately, I did exactly that, they just weighed me 5 minutes ago:

284.8

It's actually 62.4%.

By the way, they weighed me about 2-3 days ago. My new weight is...

281.4 lbs.

This is probably the lowest weight I've had in twenty years.

DONT DO IT YOU'RE GONNA DIE!

All these "X% higher mortality" studies have always been complete BS. Last time I looked at one, it turned out I had to go and look at the actual paper and find the data, and that "300% higher" number they were stating was because the chance of dying climbed from like 1 in a million to 3 in a million.

LMAO. Science is no different than any other human endeavor. You present your work in a way that makes it look really groundbreaking, even if it's the most meh of all the meh.

Axle scales have a margin of error of .1 to .25% so there's that.

Correction to earlier post.

Today they just weighed me. My weight is 321.8. Which makes very little sense. Yeah, I still eat crap that can cause weight gain, But I don't care how much I overeat, there are only three possible conclusions.

1. I ate enough to gain 44 pounds in 4 days.
2. This weighing is wrong and it is less.
2. The 2024-08-02 measure was wrong, perhaps the prior measurement of 302.7 was wrong. It could have been higher in either or both cases.

I'll presume the latter is the case. I don't like it, but I accept reality as it is, not as how I wish it was. I just remembered something I will check on: was the scale zeroed first? I know they did that on the prior weighing. Maybe it had an effect here.

One of the aides came back. She doesn't know if the scale was zeroed. I don't know if doing so makes any difference.

I have sometimes thought they should weigh me more often, instead of like once a month, it should be every week or two weeks. This would allow me to notice if I'm gaining weight before it gets too bad.

Wait WAT!?!! I dont believe either 251 nor 219. Neither seems even remotely plausible to me.

I am down from 210 to 170. I'm trying to find 5 more lbs. I dont know if I can get there. Its freakin hard.

277.8

I am amazed. This is the lowest weight I've been in probably 20 years. I am kind of amazed, They do have me on one of the new weight loss drugs, Monjaro, but it's only supposed to offer about a 15% loss. 15% of 300 is only 45 pounds, and I have lost significantly more than that.

Nice!

I am looking forward to the warmer weather, when I can get back out and do 5-6 miles per day. I've got a 3.2 mile loop that I rip out at lunch, and then any number of paths that I can do after work to hit the balance.

I never thought I'd enjoy walking so much. #OldGuyThings

Just to circle back on this! So right now my goal is 6200 steps a day. I have been upping it every couple of weeks by a little and this month, March, is the first one where I am 24/24 making the goal each day. I end up hitting more because once I get to the goal (and my phone gives me the dopamine of being successful at something) I still lead my life normally. Looking at my app, which is connected to my watch and phone, I am at 7353 steps on average for the last 7 days, 7122 steps for the last 31 days and 5815 steps a day since I got my watch from Melissa in September (I started going serious at all of this in July).

I think I am walking just over 3 miles a day on average according to the apps.

This is the piece I'm struggling with. To build muscle, I need more protein. To get more protein, I need more calories. I can't run a 750 calorie deficit while eating more protein.

Once I get to my target weight, and I can add those calories back to my diet, I will try to focus on eating more protein and adding muscle.

Wait, why is it less? Because you are getting more efficient at it? This sounds terrible! I want to be less efficient!
Exactly. My resting heart rate has dropped from the low 70s to mid 50s. My blood pressure has dropped about 10/5. My body doesn't have to work as hard while I'm walking, so it burns less calories. Its nice, but sucks at the same time.

Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:45 pm Wait, why is it less? Because you are getting more efficient at it? This sounds terrible!
One reason is weight loss. When I was 242lbs I was burning more calories when running compared to the 207lbs I weigh now. Which is kind of obvious. To burn about the same amount, I would now have to wear 35lbs worth of running weights when running.

Another way to burn more calories is resistance training to build more muscle mass. The more you have, the more calories you burn while doing nothing. Getting buff means it's harder to get fat since you burn more calories even when just sitting and sleeping. I am not doing that though. Running is fine. I enjoy it.
