The ALDI chain of supermarkets -
http://www.aldi.us - has a very special steak, or maybe it's not steak since their ad says something different, but here it is:
Cattleman's Ranch
USDA Choice Bacon Wrapped Beef Chuck Tender Filet
The 10-ounce package consists of two fillets wrapped with bacon. They are great, and I'm not even that big a bacon fan. But these are delicious, and at $4.50 they're an excellent value.
The only problem was, while they were very tasty and juicy, they seemed a bit chewy. The package says bake at 375 for 25 minutes, but what I have done is soften them, after I take them out of the freezer, doing them for about 2 minutes in the microwave - instead of the 30 seconds I used to use - to make them easy to slide out of the plastic package.
I also increased the cooking time to 28 minutes and they came out perfect. Cuts and chews easy, delicious flavor and no problems. I just put a little steak sauce on them to make them pop.
----
The Aldi chain started in Europe, and in the 1940s it split into two companies, Aldi North and Aldi South. When they entered the U.S. market, Aldi North continued to call itself ALDI, but Aldi South called itself Trader Joes.
