Better buddy cop movies than LW2: Lethal Weapon 1, Die Hard 1 (who forgets about Sgt. Al Powell ?), and The Last Boy Scout come to mind.

You guys are so wrapped up around a given film being something you can get your rocks off to.

I happen to like action movies. More, I happen to like buddy cop movies. Say what you will about that genre, there's a plot, which is something missing from There Will Be Blood and The Master. That's right: as much as you feel those are amazing, ground-breaking movies, they don't actually have a plot. They are "biopics."

And I think Lethal Weapon 2 is the best buddy cop movie ever made. So there ya go.

Similarly, with Re-Animator. Best horror movie I've ever seen, and I give it an enormous amount of credit for not using any screamers and for not having any computer graphics. (Oh, hell, maybe it does, but I doubt it. I didn't look it up or anything.)

I believe your master stroke of adding The Thing is the only part that saves this thoroughly mediocre list.

Re-Animator on a top 15? Ouch...

Chasing Amy? I would struggle to put a Kevin Smith movie on a top 20.

Lethal Weapon 2? I have to agree with Tdarcos, while the Lethal Weapon franchise is a classic, I would have chosen something less Leo Getz intensive.

The Shawshank Redemption? Now you're just mocking us? Right?

I think your list is acceptable. I liked your addition of Jaws, I definitely had a difficult time of not adding Das Boot to my list, I wanted to add Godfather 1 or 2 (but decided Goodfellas to be the best mafia movie)....

Saving Private Ryan, ok you have that thing Spielberg invented (the shaky cam?) that was original, and the story was good enough, so I won't argue with your pick...If I was to pick a war movie?....Platoon (may still end up on my final list)...and a WW2 war movie...A Bridge Too Far

Agreed, but only the theatrical release of Aliens. The Director's Cut was a huge step down.

I didn't like O Brother were art though (or whatever it was called), it is still better than 90% of the box office movies out there of the era, but that isn't saying much.

Burn After Reading (or whatever it was called) I found to be kind of mediocre by Coen Brothers standards, still better than most movies, again not saying much.

I would respect the rest of their movie catalogue on a top 15 list......

Heat (easily a top three movie)

The Usual Suspects (top ten)

Either Alien or Aliens (I always considered them two sides to the same coin, both having equal amounts of merit, just for different reasons)

I am a huge Coen Brothers fan, if the competition wasn't so fierce, I could have easily add:

Fargo, No Country for Old Men, and The Man Who Wasn't There.
