I didn't see this before or I would have added it to my previous post. The most sickening sound you can ever hear is when your nice, comfortable house shuts down. The AC or the heat is on, it's nice and comfortable, and then that "THROOOOMmmmmmmm" sound as the blower quits, followed by darkness and quiet.

There was an earlier one during a winter when it was 56 degrees. In my room!

The last time I was without power was the ice storm of '91. six days of cold and dark during the first week of March, weird huh? I took lots of pictures of that storm.

So two and a half days without power was like a weekend getaway to a more primitive time. Like visiting distant Amish relatives or something.

We have a lot of power outages here. It's a remote island and sometimes during heavy storms the power goes down for half an hour or so.

The longest I remember was many years ago. I was like 10 years old or so, and it has been snowing heavily for days on end. We ended up with something like 10 feet of snow. All cars were trapped. You couldn't see the ground floor of buildings, the snow went up to the first floor. And then we lost power for over 40 hours.

I didn't care though, because I was 10. It was all a big adventure...

I've never been without power.

The healing power of forgiveness!

I think the longest we have gone is about a day. My dad lives a little bit outside of town and during the last ice storm he was without power for almost a week. He keeps a couple of heaters and a gas generator on hand now.

When Mason was two weeks old, an ice storm blew into town and took down power lines everywhere. We lost power and with a newborn we didn't know what to do, so we drove a couple of miles west to my dad's house, but he was out of power. Then we drove a few more miles west looking for a restaurant and each time we reached a block, the power went out. We drove about ten miles before we came to a place that had power, this Chinese buffet. I remember we got there around dinner time, maybe 6pm, and stayed until they threw us out at closing. We ended up calling a friend and crashing at their house for the night (none of our local friends had power either, so we had to find someone that lived far enough away that they had power).

My main memory from that night is of an annoyed Chinese waitress coming by and saying "you like-a more water?" about 100 times.

I knew this because you live down the road from danzaland! He had to bring his kids into work today because school was also closed. He works with my brother who is without internet services.

2 days with no electricity so far. Posting from my phone. Major high winds killed the infrastructure. If we dont find land soon we may have to resort to cannibalism...no just kidding. Whats the longest anyone else here has gone without power? .. I just found out mt phone keyboard has no return key. What the fudge!
