The best part is Pinback's still in his honeymoon period. Just wait till those moments come when he's sick of the little brat and only wants some time by himself to play Boats. Or when, for the tenth night in a row, the gourmet braised whoopdey-doo he fixed gets dumped on the floor with a "BLECH!"

Though, I gotta hand it to him that he made it through that trip back. I really wondered how that would go. I thought the flight itself would be the worst part, but it seems that arriving home with the dogs was the true capper on a trying day. What a scene! I imagine it like an alternate ending to A Christmas Story where the Bumpus Hounds bust into the Chinese restaurant.

Well, you understand, "spending a day with a five year old" was not what made the day challenging.

If I understand this correctly, are you saying that the 30-hour day will be an outlier to the job of parenting in general?

After 27 straight hours of international travel, including an extended stay with customs and immigration, with a five year old who doesn't speak English and has to pee every 20 minutes, followed by two hours of terror as the kid and the dogs who were super-psychotic to see us had to get used to seeing each other, I shall be fielding no more complaints about your very stressful and difficult lives of having to park across the street or whatever your latest very troubling difficulty is.
