Umm, if NASA is a military agency, why didn't the space shuttles have guns on 'em?
DEBUNKED
Wrong. A military outfit or particular soldiers only carry weapons if they are in combat, a fighting area or are escorting prisoners. Soldiers on military bases are not allowed to carry weapons off duty unless there is a known threat. A soldier or group traveling in a military automobile will not be carrying weapons. Army Regulation 190-14, March 12, 1993; Navy SECNAVINST 5500.29C, August 27, 2003; Marine Corps MCO 5500.6H CH 1, August 21, 2013; Air Force AFI 31-117, June 29, 2012.
