Woops - that was me.

If you already played, your feedback is welcome! :)

Yeah, if I can get it done before the end of the year I am just going to release it, but if it looks like it's not finished by December 31st, it's Spring Thing bound!

OK, I see the games are up. Gonna go download me some DISTRESS!!!

by Merk » Sat Oct 01, 2005 10:31 am

Thanks! I'd say more, but the comp rules prohibit it for another six weeks. :)

I thought that the author login page has an option to "withrdaw from the competition" -- but I could be wrong. It was at least cool to see another game under Hugo on the list, before it was removed. Are you planning to finish and release it soon, or wait for another competition?

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Fri Sep 30, 2005 11:09 pm

Yeah, I still had some work to do on it. I'm at the point in my career where I can't release anything that isn't rock-solid in terms of testing.

I couldn't find a place to tell Stephen, "Hey, I didn't finish in time," so I didn't say anything, which is definitely rude. It's been tough to get on the Mud and talk that way too lately, so it's just a debacle all the way around.

Good to see that "Distress" made it, however!

Woops, now it's gone. Maybe Stephen is going through validating all the uploads now...?

by Merk » Fri Sep 30, 2005 9:36 pm

Hey, it looks like you made it in time, after all!! :)

Congratulations!

I don't know that I'll make it in time, either. I still have a lot to do (even though my graphics are almost all done, and the whole story is set, I have a lot of coding left). In theory, and given enough hours each day, I could do it. With a new baby, though (today's the day), I just don't know if I'll even have the motivation to finish.

I had a different game in mind for the Spring Thing, but I may end up submitting this one instead. That's provided I even get it done in time for that!

I am working on systematically destroying this once-proud Bulletin Board System.

by Roody_Yogurt » Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:03 pm

Haha. Unfortunately, I haven't even touched my game since writing that theme song. Glad that everyone's not like me, though.

by Ice Cream Jonsey » Mon Aug 29, 2005 9:53 pm

Looks like I am not going to make it! It is Spring Thing bound. My goal is to win it. To be "a winner." That is my goal. Half my time will be spent working on the game and the other half on a voting script.

by Merk » Wed Jul 27, 2005 4:42 am

That's true. Well, if we're both done early enough, I'll trade testing with you, if you want.

That's a good point. I've also learned a lot about unit testing that I didn't know when developing the other ones. Hugo makes it so easy, too, by using simple text files with commands in them for playback. (Actually, all of the IF languages probably do it, but still.)

What the hey, I'll give it the old college try. If it's small enough maybe I can get away with two weeks of solid testing. I just don't want to put a broken game in the comp, the players get enough of that from many of the other entries.

by Merk » Mon Jul 25, 2005 8:54 pm

I have a *lot* to get done on my game. Pretty much all of it, except for the graphics and the basic backstory (well, I still have a few graphics to complete). We have two months and a week left. That's plenty of time! I wrote last year's entry in less time, so I'm still optimistic.

On a tangent, I may try to lean away from graphics in future games. It would make development go so much more quickly. Well, I'll probably have chapter-intro graphics to the Trading Punches prequels, and maybe more in-game graphics if I ever do sequels to the one I'm working on now, but I think most of my other ideas would be just fine without pictures.

Yeah, I applied for the IF Comp, but I doubt strongly I'll get something finished in time. It was to be no big whoop, just a silly little thing.

The deadline just creeps up on you.

Honestly? I'm working on my writer's block right now. Progress is slow.

I have about a third of a short game worked out, but none of it is coded.

I'm working on my entry for IF-Comp '05. It's not near ready for beta testing yet, but if anybody is interested, I'll probably be looking for help some time in September. Ideally, I could trade testing with somebody else submitting an IF-Comp entry -- doesn't have to be Hugo -- so that neither of us would be taking a potential judge out of the loop for voting.
