Liksang's back up

...Minus all the mod stuff. Ah, well, it's probably best that way -- when I bought my Playstation II it was with the understanding that it was still Sony's property. Not mine. OK, kinda odd that I had to pay $200 for it, but I guess that was more of a leasing fee. Or something.

Or to put it another way: because Microsoft, Nintendo and Sony (who ALL had a hand in this, according to the latest reports) honestly believe that they still have "dibs" on a device purchased by their consumers, well, go-go gadget piracy as far as I am concerned. (Well, for first party-titles, anyway.) It's too bad the industry is still an immature one in that manner.

Actually, forget about the piracy -- the backup angle is one that needs to be addressed. My brother and two of his friends spent every Friday and Saturday night for six months playing the previous version of Tiger Woods golf a year ago, in sessions of about 8 hours per day. After six months, the PS2 that they used had burned a groove into the disc, rendering it useless. $50, just like that, down the fucking shitter because that rev of the PS2 couldn't handle being actually played. I bought my PS2 a couple months ago and haven't had any marathon sessions on it, but it'd be nice to have that option. In a perfect world you have game stores who will exchange a non-working game after six months for a solid one, and you have Sony making consoles that won't intentionally break down like that... and the ability to play a backup isn't necessary. Unfortunately, there ain't no living in a perfect world and if it takes the "evil, sinister black market" to get the kind of functionality the PC has, well, so be it.
