I switched from cable to DSL and used my iPhone to go through the bullshit in switching over. I've been using an Android phone for a few months. Having to go back to the goddamn single-button iPhone is FUCKING INFURIATING.

It's said Jobs didn't like buttons. Here's a pithy comment about that. Fuck you Steve Jobs

He was a lot more important.

Number of things you interact with with a screen that would not exist without Dennis Fucking Ritchie: pretty much all of them.

Those tens or hundreds of Mac users are using Mac OS, a derivative of Unix. And probably use programs that were written in some flavor of C.

Ritchie may not have had the public charisma or flair of Jobs, but he was no less important.

The number of people who know about and/or use products invented by Steven Jobs or which he was manager of the development process for the product, numbers in the tens or hundreds of millions.

The number of people who know about Richie and his work on the C language and Unix, what, a few thousand?

Most people will never know about Niclaus Wirth and his development of Pascal; of Kennemy and Kurtz and their development of Basic; of Bill Gates and his development of Basic. (Yeah, millions of people know Gates was the head of Microsoft; maybe a few thousand know he started out as a computer programmer. He also got arrested once for writing hot checks.)
