Metal \m/ question for Aardvark
Hey Vark - one of the cabinets I have is supposed to have a metal piece that keeps the marquee in place. I don't have mine. It is basically a piece of metal at a 90 degree angle with holes in it to allow a screw to be fastened to the top of the machine.
This is a machine that is lacking the piece of metal, but you can see where it goes: http://www.rayb.com/arcade/images/omega ... efore2.jpg
Is that something I could buy from your shop if I got you the dimensions? I can pick it up in NY and buy you a drink from an appropriate social distance when I am there in September. (If this isn't all a giant pain in the ass!)

No problem! Send me some dimensions and ill make one for you.
It fits between the side panels and has a bend of 90 degrees. There's a couple more numbers that I'll need but I can bend one for you easy. You prefer aluminium, steel or stainless?

Not sure which but if he's going to match how the picture looked, he needs it jet black with a powder coat of, well. powder. That, or dirt.AArdvark wrote: Sat Aug 15, 2020 12:43 pm There's a couple more numbers that I'll need but I can bend one for you easy. You prefer aluminium, steel or stainless?

Re: Metal \m/ question for Aardvark

RobB, if you could fill in the blanks on the sizes I can get this made when I go back to work. I'm on vacation this week but it wont be a problem when I return.
Some of the retainer brackets I looked up are not at 90 degrees, You're positive you need 90, right?
Also, will you need mounting holes? I can put holes in it as well if needed. If you are going to do the drilling I can make it out of aluminum
Commander, I doubt he's going to powder coat the thing. For what it is he can spray paint it and it'll look just as good.

Re: Metal \m/ question for Aardvark
Ok, it's 18 inches across. (A)
It's is 2 inches deep (B)
And then the front lip is half an inch (C)
My thought for the screw holes - there's one at 1.5" and 16.5". (On the "A" view, left to right.) There's two in the middle as well but if we go aluminum and for whatever reason those two holes don't line up I can drill for the two middle ones?

Let's go with the aluminum, .060 thick. What I'll probably do is make a few of them without holes and you can drill them out later. Does the bend radius make a difference? I was thinking 1/4 inch, that's a nice easy number.

Oh hell yeah! Aardvark potentially making custom repro metal parts for our arcade games is fucking sensational.

I am not sure what bend radius is but I'll defer to what you think works!AArdvark wrote: Sun Aug 16, 2020 12:38 pm Let's go with the aluminum, .060 thick. Re: Metal \m/ question for Aardvark
Bend radius is if you continued the outside curve of the bend into an entire circle and took the radius of that. It's a measure of "how HARD do you want this thing bent: around a dime or around a motorcycle tire?" Both are 90 degree bends, but one is MUCH different than the other. Basically he's going to put a pipe down on a sheet, and crank the fucker around it until one side stands up.
1/4" is probably fine, I don't think it's going to matter.

Re: Metal \m/ question for Aardvark
'Vark, I was being facetious, in that if it's going to match the cabinet, it needed to be painted black and liberally powdered with dirt. The cabinet is liberally speckled all over with brown "crumbs" that look like dirt. Thus the reference to “powder coating.”AArdvark wrote: Sun Aug 16, 2020 10:23 am Commander, I doubt he's going to powder coat the thing. Yeah, I read that as powdered with dirt for what it's worth.
