It might be a BASIC (.bas) file - Flack, do you know how to run .bas files?

That looks like fun. Kind of a Choplifter meets Defender style. Why didn't they make that game in 1986?

This game was written using XC=BASIC, which is a cross compiler for the C64. The short explanation is, it's easier to create games these days than it was back then using modern tools.
