Cruise missiles. There was a Star Trek game, on a TRS-80 when I saw it, that enabled you to launch a self tracking missile into a particular area. This game needs that!

Ben, could Lua be used to do a Defender-type game?

Yes. It is aching to be used to do a Defender-type game.

Re: Yet another Lua project...

The working name for this game is now officially Fuck Tom Nelson, because Jesus Christ, I was able to cobble this together today in a few hours, in between feeding people and cleaning up dog shit, and I don't see why Tom couldn't have done this some time in the past THIRTY-FIVE YEARS, and just plugged the old Begin logic into a new engine like this and get it out to the fans.
Well, fuck Tom Nelson. I'll just do it myself.
Welcome to Begin 4.

You can already zoom in and out with the wheel, drag the map around with the middle button, and the enemy ship is chasing you, while you click around to maneuver.
This is almost my favorite space game already and you can't do anything in it yet.

Are you imagining it as a sort of Spacewar type game?pinback wrote: Sat Dec 11, 2021 2:54 pm You can already zoom in and out with the wheel, drag the map around with the middle button, and the enemy ship is chasing you, while you click around to maneuver.

Can there be...... lasers in space? Phasers?
When you destroy the enemy ship, can it eject some life pods? I want to be able to decide who lives and dies. I want to be able to shoot the little life pods. Or maybe use a tractor beam to suck 'em up into my ship. The power, pinback. We'd have complete control. We could shoot their ships, suck their little life pods into ours where they would go to the brig... or maybe we just pick 'em off one at a time. Zap! Zap!
(But maybe also they are trying to use warp drive so after a few seconds they start light speeding their way off the map so ya gotta be quick.)
Don't you want to feel powerful with me, with this............................. pinback?

I mean, it's Begin 4. So all the stuff Begin has, that's what we're going for. Except better, because fuck Tom Nelson.
Lookie here, already got some torpedoes, and some PARALLAX ACTION goin' with the background.

Man that renders slow on here.

This is looking incredibly playable! Me likee the Silent Service and Star Trek elements. Can there be cloaking of enemy ships?
