Why I came back
So, here's the story of how I came back.
Before I get into this, remember I have no idea who is here or how busy this place is. For all I know it's a whole crowd of new, young, beautiful people who not only are physically and emotionally incapable of caring less about who I am and/or why I am here, but will have no idea why my return is significant, if it is in fact significant in any opinion except my own and maybe -- maybe -- Jonsey's and 'Vark's.
For all I know, everything has moved on and my presence is nothing but an unwelcome intrusion.
Buuuuuuuuuut, the original Jolt Country was, if I remember correctly, built on people like me posting stream-of-consciousness crap like this, and the rest of us responding by making fun of us, putting us down and/or implying that said streams of consciousness were proof of how easy it would be for any of us to have sex with the poster's significant other, if indeed such a significant other existed.
I take it the only person who might really care how I got back is Jonsey, and he already knows, a factor which achieves what I thought was impossible by making this message even more of a naval-gazer.
Basically, I was reading filfre.net, because I've been futzing with SheepShaver and Baselisk II and wanted a little old-computer history, and that guy is awesome. I downloaded his IF history eBook, and... there was a quote from Jonsey!
Jonsey, to whom I owe several phone calls, not least of all because I told him I wanted him to help me author a sitcom pilot, promised to send a pdf and never did. (With good reason, RobB -- I just re-read it again tonight, and it's still kinda lousy, which is really why I need you in the first place.)
So, I watched Get Lamp, saw more Jonsey, went to his web site, etc., etc., etc., and then remembered that Jolt Country BBS still exists and I have been promising to be part of it for, oh, about a decade and a half.
Well, tonight marks a brief respite before I get overwhelmed with some home-personal stuff again. Plus it just so happens I am staying at my parents house, and living with The Units brings back memories of the original Jolt Country!
So, folks, here I am, for better or for worse, probably worse. With any luck, I can get Smellheim back. Jeff will be a harder sell, but I'll see what I can do.
For those who a) don't know me and b) haven't killed themselves to avoid the monotony of more of this drivel, I remember Jolt Country when it first started! It was a force for good, and also helped to get me laid, so I am ever in Jonsey's debt. (Actually, I think it had that affect on a couple of us, didn't it?)
Anyway. More tales from original JC if anyone wnats to hear them, or at least my version of them.
Hugs and kisses,
TRM

PS, while I write this, I am waiting for Mac OS X to install on a virtual machine. How Old Jolt Country is that?

And won't invoking the name "Smellheim" bring him back?

Re: Why I came back
I am glad that you brought the pilot up. Please send me your PDF! I will relate a story that hopefully makes you feel better. I have been bothering the three other members of my college band to make more music. I have sent them one new song. I have procrastinated sending them more things because I don't think what I have done is good enough. Well, of course it's not. It's missing 3/4th of the team on it!The REAL Real Man wrote: Sun Jan 22, 2023 8:58 pmJonsey, to whom I owe several phone calls, not least of all because I told him I wanted him to help me author a sitcom pilot, promised to send a pdf and never did. All songs, pilots, games, etc, are perfect when they exist in our heads. If we don't put them out there in the world they cannot fail. But you won't fail with me. Not only am I looking forward to seeing what you have come up with, but I would also be delighted to help suggest some jokes in a judgment-free environment.
I also made two jokes last weekend with a microphone that 350 Kenyans did not exactly laugh at so there is no better time than now to pick ourselves up by our bootstraps.

I have GOT to know the joke that bombed in front of 350 Kenyans.
PDF coming... soon. Just a wee bit more editing.

Re: Why I came back
So the day of the wedding there were 400 Kenyans all doing professionally choreographed dancing. Ok, maybe 30 choreographed the rest are just that good. For hours!
Seperate context: The day before we all met Baby Tristan, who is six months old and a nephew of the bride.
So when I was given the mic I said "Y'all are really serious about the dancing, I saw baby Tristan out busting moves and I didn't even know he could walk."
Then troops from the UN appeared and grabbed the mic to stop this illegal international bombing campaign.

Did any of the 400 Kenyans speak English? That may have been a factor

That is both wonderful and terrible in exactly the way I was hoping it would be.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Mon Jan 23, 2023 4:56 pm So when I was given the mic I said "Y'all are really serious about the dancing, I saw baby Tristan out busting moves and I didn't even know he could walk."
