Nox Archaist
I've been talking about this in threads, but this is the first time I have had a chance to play it on real hardware.
For those not in the know, Nox Archaist is an Apple ][ game developed independently by Apple ][ homebrew game enthusiasts. You can get it on Steam. You can get it on gog.com. Or their own store. It is very much like Ultima III, IV, V or VI. I didn't stop enjoying that style of game, the game industry stopped making them. So I am delighted that a game like Nox exists in today's world (I think it was released in 2021).
I have gone all in, I have a shirt and the printed manual and the book of hints. I am at the point in my life where I can't waste time figuring out where to go next, so I use the book of hints for some direction on what to do. All the quests I had active on my save game (the same file I saved on Steam works on the Apple) were too high level for me, so I beat up some trash mobs, cursing when I did not get gold for my efforts. Ya gotta give gold!
I will start tomorrow with a picture of my setup because I feel people may enjoy seeing it.

This is an example of search not working.
I tried the word "Archaist" and this thread did not show up.
Back to the drawing board.

Re: Nox Archaist
I kind of want to use this thread to keep track of what I am doing in the game. So when I come back to it, I can read this thread and gain that memory.

I am using save slot: 2.
My main character Nina has 536 experience points and is level 3.
My GOALS are - raise the levels of all companions by fighting trash mobs.
But my QUESTS are:
1. Nox Yvviar of Surrtheld Castle wants you to seek out one of the cult's temples. Try to find out what they're up to, then report back to Nox Yxxiar. She suggests asking around Madac about the cult.
2. Kill Rat King for Matt Barton of Bayport.
... There was a dungeon I was doing "runs" of, which I will explain next. I can't recall if I finished the dungeon or not. Or where it was. Which is the point of doing this.
Way I left it - I entered the castle in Everton to heal my guys up and get their spell points back and buy equipment. After I do this, I am going to refind that dungeon and see if I can clear it out. Save slot 2 was used.

This is very high on my list of Steam Games I Own That I Totally Want To Play But Never Get Around To It.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

Re: Nox Archaist
Tonight I fought a few trash mobs. The "quick" combat that I tried for the first time used up all the spell points for Cutter. :(
I am in a place called "Alef's Knoll." I am just wandering around trying to get a bunch of quests ready to go. I think I need a lot more money so I can upgrade equipment before I buy a boat, which seems to be one of the things to do early on.
Used save slots 1 and 2!

We found a quest to get a BOW. And then we went into Bayport. I remember this being really confusing because it is so large. I used save slot 2!

Nice. I'm still on Ultima V at moment but I am still going to get to this game eventually.Ice Cream Jonsey wrote: Tue Sep 05, 2023 8:21 pm We found a quest to get a BOW. And then we went into Bayport. I remember this being really confusing because it is so large. I used save slot 2!

We traveled to Knaerwood. We fought Centaurs for the first time and some more difficult scouts. I spoke with a guy that wanted to tell me all about Knaerwood. I guess there is a lot of commerce and archery training going on in the city.

Re: Nox Archaist
In this town, someone is selling a "triple crossbow." It would take more than half my gold if we get it.
Save slot 1. I will use that from now on.

Re: Nox Archaist
So, I grabbed the hdv file from the FloppyEMu and put it in the BOOTi, which has a simpler way of loading files. I was confused because this thread said that my changes to Nox were in September of 2023, but the date modified was January of 2023.
But loading it on the BOOTi... it has me in the same town I said I was in. So who knows how the FloppyEMU handles date modified.
