Good frozen food.

Post by pinback »

The freezer aisles to me perfectly sum up a lot of America's failures. Just endless tons and tons of garbage in incomprehensibly wide varieties. It's cheap, it's easy, and it's almost uniformly gross.

But... are there hidden wonders? Are there actually things in the freezer aisle that you'd intentionally eat even if you didn't have to?

Let's learn together!

After last night's meal, I will start with this one:

EL MONTEREY BEEF ENCHILADAS

There is a Mexican restaurant in the same shopping center as the grocery store I purchased these from, and these were better than the enchiladas I had at the restaurant.

(I should say, dessert items are excluded. Obviously there are good ice creams and stuff.)

Ah! But is restaurant food so bad now that it makes frozen food good???

No??????

I wait with bated breath at possible other hidden treasures.

No, restaurant food is good, frozen food is bad.

However, some restaurant food is bad, and some frozen food is good! And I'm looking up the screen here and it sure doesn't look to me like the topic of this thread is BAD RESTAURANT FOOD, so let's keep the FROZEN PARTY GOING!

DEEP CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA

Any "Deep" brand item would work here, they are uniformly and shockingly good. This TIKKA is not as good as the best I've had in a restaurant, but it's sure better than the worst, and if it was served to me in a restaurant, I would happily return to that restaurant.

Hum. Marie Calendar's restaurant was pretty good but the frozen stuff is pretty terrible. Cool to see some frozen food is restaurant quality

You know, you all can participate too! I'm sure ol' Paul has a few favorites from back in his grocery-store-shoppin' days!

But that's okay, I'll keep going for now. Kinda, you know, warming up the crowd:

Now, this one really comes down to whether you think White Castles are good or not. I think they are.

Look at the goddamn pizza aisle. No pizza is going to make this list, and the saddest ones are the ones made by restaurants that DO make good pizza, but because it's frozen, it's going to be borderline passable at best, and a far cry from what you'd get from the restaurant.

That is NOT THE CASE with frozen White Castles. Other than missing the pickle (which of course you simply add yourself), these are indistinguishable from the product you'd get "fresh" from the "restaurant".

There is no reason to go to White Castle if you can get them frozen.

ICJ and TRM have banned me from eating White Castle again.

I'm not missing anything.
