I would only wish that for all of us.

Okay. Here's my dumb take.

The radiation MIGHT work. Sometimes radiation benefits people, like the Hulk and Doctor Manhattan. Sometimes it does not benefit people, like the hundreds of thousands of people that lived in Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Chernobyl and the greater Hiroshima, Nagasaki and Chernobyl areas.

Scooping it out WILL work.

As a long time champion of a cartoon commercial avatar that scooped ice cream cereal out of a drivable ice cream truck, I of course would like to encourage the scooping.

He tenuously floated the term "cure" out there, if everything goes to spec.

Then I talked with my radiation doctor today about the plan, and he said, well, the point of the radiation is to kill off the two tumors I got in there, and if it did its job, then there's nothing to remove with surgery.

So now it's like, am I dying or not? What the fuck is going on? This one's telling me I'm a goner, this other one's saying, nah, let's just kill 'em off, the other one's saying nah, let's just remove 'em.

It was all very clear when I was definitely on my way out, now I dunno what to think. Oh well, time for another Oxy.
As someone who has laid in bed late at night choked up summarizing this thread to his wife, I am glad to hear the latest turn of events.

I will hold off on sending my "things I wanted to say to Pinback before he croaks" email... for now.

If the doctor that gave you the death sentence was wrong, I will bring back the Pinback apology generator.

This is honestly the best news I've read all month, even better than the Big Bear Eaglet flying, I hope you can keep crumudgeoning for many years to come.

Serious question though, now there are a number of cancer treatments that can be targeted to your tumor's genes. Was that ever an option offered or is that not a thing yet for what ya got?

Thank you both. I do think we need to "manage hope" a little bit here. I do believe the doctor who said that in my situation, the average lifespan is three years. I also believe the doctors who say that there's a possibility for a "cure", or at least a longer-than-three-years solution, be it surgical or via radiation.

To quote the illustrious Wolf, let's not start suckin' each other's dicks quite yet.

But until the conversations I had this week, I did not feel there was even a remote chance of any future dick suckin'. So we'll see. Keep your dicks ready, but don't start fluffin' yet.

We'll see.

(CO: They did a "genetic study" or something of the tumor they removed. I assume that is informing all future decisions, but I have not heard anything specific.)

I will keep my fly up until an updated bucket list has been posted.

Also, have you considered tracking future quotes in a thread called something like "quote posting storage"?

I thought of that strategy, but then I realized...

I don't like that one.

Thanks!

I completed radiation therapy today. That is... that's my update. My debilitating back pain has been significantly reduced. If you didn't know me very well, you probably would not be able to tell anything was wrong anymore.

I forget if I told this story before, but after my nephrectomy, they were very niggardly dispensing Oxys to me, even the lowest, 5mg dose. Like, they gave me TWELVE (12) pills after the surgery. When I went to get a refill, I had to get the third degree, making sure I still had pain, making sure I wasn't just trying to get fun drugs easily. Eventually they gave me 12 more, and then cut me off cold.

When the back pain started last month, they decided it was cancer-related, and wasn't likely to improve over time, so they just DUMPED Oxy on me. 10mg pills, 120 pills. A 30-day supply, they said, assuming I'd be doing it every six hours like it says.

I got a letter in the mail yesterday saying I was approved for ELEVEN (11) refills. That same 120 day supply per month for an entire year. I do not need or use four of them in a day. Three, max, usually just two.

That's how you know they don't think you're going to live. You get virtually INFINITE OXYCODONE.

All I got to say about that is, damn, I wish I got cancer sooner.

(For those with limited/no experience, let me make it perfectly clear: Oxy is the greatest single drug on the planet. Weed, alcohol, all that crap? Child's play. Oxy is the greatest substance ever invented by man, and now it's like I just have a pneumatic tube zipping them straight into my mouth whenever I want.)

All these treatments are going to be expensive and with all those surplus pills... lots of us here have PayPal, s'all I'm sayin'...

All kidding aside, one less is better than one more. Don't forget what my cousin used to say about oxy...

Damn. Well, I don't think that'll be an issue here. Haven't really shown signs of having an "addictive personality".

Hmm?

I saw the spinal surgeon today, an hour and a half drive to Columbus. He said, you did radiation and are feeling better, why are you here?

I said I dunno, and drove an hour and a half back home.

Pills were at least $10 each fifteen years ago, its got to be way more by now?

Pinback could be a millionaire with a month prescription.
