Yeah, I did want to comment on this:chris wrote:Oh man, if the rest of this season's episodes of "Battlestar Galactica" suck as much as the one yesterday (with Starbuck stranded on that moon), it ain't gonna last very long. Christ, that episode sucked!
Remember when I said it looked like it was either going to get better slowly, or worse very quickly?
That episode certainly makes a case for the latter option. This week's show better be a masterpiece, or I'm going to start getting very nervous and jittery and probably start having gastrointestinal difficulties.
I also don't like how, during the opening credits of every show, they essentially show you the entire upcoming show in the space of 15 seconds.
Am I a hero? I really can't say. But, yes.

I had occasion to watch two full episodes of the original series this morning, having not set eyes on it since I was a young, impressionable youth of a relatively low age.
That show was NOT the greatest sci-fi show since TNG.
However, interesting in that they appear to have searched for actors who look kinda like the original characters. Even the girl Starbuck has that wide-face thing going on.
Oh well, whatever. Tonight's episode, like I said, better kick fucking Parrish ass, or I'm going to have to start slowly rolling back this thread until there's nothing left.

I think tonight's episode is where Adama & the Prez tell everybody that Cylons can look like humans, and that asian pilot might get caught. Has a lot of potential anyway.pinback wrote:Oh well, whatever. Just read that the series has been picked up for another season. I wonder if the demise of "Enterprise" (a mercy killing if I've ever seen one) had anything to do with it.

Yes. Now, the entire success of the series from here until the end of its time on the air depends solely on which way they go with this revelation. Here's the way it goes down:chris wrote:I think tonight's episode is where Adama & the Prez tell everybody that Cylons can look like humans, and that asian pilot might get caught. Scenario One
Asian pilot continues to lie and the twerpy mechanic guy keeps hiding her true identity, and the weasel scientist continues to lie and act weasely, and nobody really finds anything out, and a bunch of other contrived crap happens which wouldn't need to happen if anyone would just behave like a decent human being for once.
Fate of Television Series: Utter and complete demise, leaving only a trail of missed potential in its wake.
Scenario Two
Anything other than Scenario One happens.
Fate of Television Series: Narrowly escapes disaster, and goes on to be a good, solid weekly show which we can all look forward to and maybe buy some action figures.
I give Scenario Two about a 20-1 shot at this point. Particualrly since the preview of tonights show shows somebody blowing themselves up, suicide-bomber style. Ugh.
Let us pray.

Well if you think about it, things like sabotage SHOULD be happening if the Cylons had infiltrated humanity before the armageddon. The series definitely has a sense of realism/desperation that the old one didn't have at all, and I like that. However, I agree that the episodes need to be realistic (unlike last week's episode), but also be interesting enough and not just a different crisis each week to deal with.pinback wrote:I give Scenario Two about a 20-1 shot at this point. This week's episode rating: Ehh. Better than last week's. But then again, raging red bleeding hemmorhoids are better than last week's episode.
The previews for this week's episode look very promising. But then again, they always do.
I will give the show: TWO MORE WEEKS. If it ain't on a serious upswing by then? The new BG is dead to me.
DEAD.

Every series has at least one bad episode. Give 'em time.pinback wrote:This week's episode rating: Ehh. Better than last week's. But then again, raging red bleeding hemmorhoids are better than last week's episode.
Baltar was supposed to be executed on the original series, but I think it was rewritten that he escaped and was given command of a Cylon base star to hunt down Galactica. It'll be interesting to see what the new series does with him.The previews for this week's episode look very promising. But then again, they always do.
The remaining episodes should be good....there are supposed to be some serious cliffhangers at the end of this season.I will give the show: TWO MORE WEEKS. If it ain't on a serious upswing by then? The new BG is dead to me.
