Haha, the one-two punch of seeing Sinestro and getting congratulated by the Milker.

Anyway, to anyone who didn't know I quit on the 17th of March and just got hired today at a place of business a few towns over where Milkunits works. That, coupled with the fact that I took my girlfriend to a special at the UC-Boulder planetarium tonight where they had a special on one of my favorite moons -- Mimas -- well, this makes today one of the best days I've ever had.

On the other hand, being off for two and a half weeks still wasn't enough time to turn this place into a throbbing nerve of activity again. Oh well, maybe in another seven years!

Also, here are some fun stats:

Number of jobs applied for since 1/1/05: 33

Number of interviews: 4

Number of contacts from people looking to hire me in a state other than Colorado, who got my info the day after I updated it on Dice: 3 (They're usually Indian, very sweet and very polite.)

Number of contacts from people who got my info in an unknown manner with intent to hire in Colorado: 1 (Apex Technologies)

I've heard that 1 interview per 9 applications isn't so bad, and I was just around that number. A friend of mine who has a Ph.D said he was getting about that rate as well. There are also a number of companies in Colorado who, as far as I can tell, are not actually hiring, but just trying to collect resumes (or else they have someone getting a green card with a position and have to offer it to the public before officially offering it to the guy actually working it).

Does any of this matter? No, because I essentially got a chance to interview for the job I took because I knew somebody. I've been very interested in the job search thing for a lot longer than just the beginning of the year... and honestly, knowing somebody is the biggest key. If you hate your boss that's cool, but hang onto your co-workers who you like as if they were GOLD. Because in a gold-backed manner of speaking, they very well could be.

I'm waiting for "The Catch." They gave everyone the Friday of March Madness off for goodness sake. In fact, they give everyone a day off every month, even for those months with no real vacation day like March and February. Seriously, between that and the fact that nobody yells at each other ... OK, there is a catch someplace. Maybe the building is on top of a former radium depot or everyone's a robot or something, I don't know, but this appears to be the best job I've ever had that will only get better when my computer actually arrives.

Update!! I received a call yesterday from a guy I applied to a few weeks back for a phone interview. I declined to go on the phone interview, but that's 5 out of 33, loyal listeners.

Seriously, all of you should quit your jobs and get new ones. Look what it did for Ben and I. Six months ago we were fighting over who got the deposit on a bottle of nice vodka. Now, we're BUYING nice vodka!!

I have been here now over three weeks, at my new job. I have done pretty much zero other than read "HOW 2 PROGRAM TEH COMPUTAR MACHINE" books and go to lunch.

And somehow, I'm now ahead of schedule. The big boss stops me in the hall today and says, "Hey, you know [that thing that I heard about three weeks ago, that would take about three hours to do]? Well, we got the go ahead for it." I'm all, "bitch, I did that last Friday while I was wiping greek salad remnants off my slobbering chin after lunch."

He all, "well, don't tell anyone that it's already done."

Yeah, this is my kind of place! Three weeks to get an approval to do a three hour job (estimated at 50+ hours), and then hang out for a week before letting anyone know you did it.

Your tax dollars at work! I hope you all filed on time on 4/15, because all that money goes directly to me.

To pay for my PALM TREES:
