I think I like vi.

Post by Ice Cream Jonsey »

I've started to use vi at work. I think I like it.

For those who are lucky enough to not have a... ah, shit. SHIT. I was going to say a "lengthy beard" but then I realized that Bruce sometimes has just that.

For those of you lucky enough to not have had to encounter vi it's a text editor with, at last count, one BILLION goddamn ways to enter and manipulate text. It's not a what-you-see-is-what-you-get text editor.

I used to not know any of the commands, so of course I hated it. But now I even know stuff like "cw" meaning "change word." How convienent!

And every time I try to run Emacs it doesn't respond to mouse clicks and provide menus like it did on my Unix computer at NatSemi. Man... fuck Emacs! At least vi is consistent!

CONSISTENCY.

So I like vi now, have failing health... can the long beard be far behind? This summer... WATCH FOR IT!!

Nothing's funnier than watching a guy get burned by his own woman.

As for vi, I use it too. Learned it at RIT back in, Jesus, 1987. Still use it when I have to delve into the seemy Unix underbelly of Mac OSX. Huge learning curve, but a very powerful editor.
