Help Me Piss on the MPAA

Post by Debaser »

Hey, kids. I'm back kinda, sorta. I'll try to fill my federally mandated quota of bad rape jokes later, but I can't right now as my girlfriend is reading crappy hisorical fiction and waiting for me to figure out how to rip DVDs on to our new video IPod. Whic prompts the question, how do I rip DVDs onto my new video IPod? I remember all the furor when that filthy pinko got arrested for cracking the encryption code like five years ago, but that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Anyone care to help a brother out?

1 year. (I was reading the join date of your last post before)

Isn't it just easier to download DVDs as a MPEG rather than ripping them yourself?

Yeah, well, kid's been busy. I bought a house. I had sex I didn't have to pay for. Stuff happens.

And anyway, I imagine it would bee easier to download movies files than go through all the trouble of ripping them, except that I already have an assload of DVDs and a Netflix membership and I don't feel like spending 2000 hours waiting for someone to log on with the nth percentile of a torrent for a movie I actually own legally. I mean, if it turns out that that's what I have to do, then that's what I have to do; but otherwise I notice a distinct lack of helping a brother out in your reply.

First of, I'm glad you're back. I really should have sent you an e-mail seeing how you are. I feel terrible about this. Congratulations on the new home. I'm really, really happy for you.

Secondly -- what kind of video can your iPod play? MPEGs no problem? Do those things have enough space for 700MB of content, or are you going to need to shrin. them down a little bit?

The guy I sit next to at work -- posts here as milkunits -- does this kind of thing all the time. I will certainly call him tomorrow to find out what software he's using and then host it. I banned our work IP from the bulletin board, so it's actually imperative that I take care of this on Sunday.

In other news, I grabbed a bunch of Pixies albums for the first time in the fall. You know, I was never able to tell you this before, but "Debaser" really is one hell of a song.

Does 'historical fiction' mean pirate romances? Because it's said that wimen who read crappy bodice rippers have 33% more sex. if they can find a man.

You bought a house and paid with your Instant Message client or what?

Man, living at home is such a drag

Now your mom threw away your best porno mag, now you can have them on your IPod.

By far the best video shrink/conversion software is by www.slysoft.com.

CloneDVDMobile is just what you need. Extremely easy to use and supports several devices including the treo 650 and PSP.

Sherwin, give me a place to upload the software if I need to help out here.

Your mommy is just jealous, it's the Beastie Boys.

Thanks, ICJ and everyone. I appreciate the thought, but I'm the one who went elsewhere, so don't feel like you need to chase me all over the internet or anything.

Okay, space isn't a problem right now. I'm dealing with 60 gigs of space, so I think I can keep them relatively good quality. Tried Milker's software, immediately butted my head up against CSS encoding, which was precisely the bit I was trying to do away with.

And Worm, old boy, I've been, as the ancients say, busy. I'll try to get back on on occassion.

Okay, figured out the encoding thing. Slysoft actually has a separate program for that. Didn't realize. Thanks, milker!

Hey-ya, while we're on teh subject. I've got a DVD of my acting class I've been wanting to rip to my hard drive, but I know less than 0 about video encoding 9...shut up you) and was wondering what gives the best encoding-to-size ratios. I mean, it's just a couple of guys running around in front of a camera on a (relatively) dim background, so i'd imagine it'd encode well with jsut about anything, but there's so many frigging programs out there that I can spend five hours looking around and still not decide on what's good.
