I don't understand the Game on the Go bit. I guess they want you to make a game and then make it compatible for a laptop. I think I am going to enter a text game (so long as they don't try to claim ownership of it in some way) just for the hell of it. I present this link to you in the spirit of gaming!View previous topic :: View next topic

I work for Intel as a Software Engineer, working specifically on optimizing PC games. Great job, right? At GDC we launched a contest to find great demos that show off the more advanced features of our platform. The AAA developers aren't entering, so it seems that the prizes are wide open for a small developer or a student group to win. We have two categories to enter, and first prize in each category is $30,000 and a high-end laptop. Full details at http://www.intel.com/software/gamecontest.
To summarize, the two categories are Best Threaded Game (multi-thread your game to run faster or better on a multi-core processor), and Best Game on the Go (make your game more convenient or more fun to play on a laptop). Beyond the first prizes, there are smaller cash prizes for the top three winners, and the top five winners receive licenses for all of our software development tools. Just for entering the contest, we will give you a limited-duration license for our software development tools. The contest runs until mid-August.
E-mail questions to gamecontest@intel.com. Good luck!

That's kinda cool but you think a text adventure is gonna push a processer any kind of hard?
It's worth a shot, tho. Make one reeeeely graphics intensive and hard to solve puzzles. Yeah, dat's the ticket! Speaking of which, somehow I get this whole Doug Adams Hitchiker Guide vibe when I play...uh..Your latest game. Forgot the title already, (damn, it's early). Anyway, was that intentional?

Definitely not. But I think it is the height of arrogance for Intel to try to get people to make games for their crap in like a month. So I am going to submit something I wrote two years ago and just see what happens.AArdvark wrote:That's kinda cool but you think a text adventure is gonna push a processer any kind of hard?
One minute after this competition ends I will give you an answer on that. It's killing me to not be able to speak on that subject. But that is a very (to me) interesting question.Speaking of which, somehow I get this whole Doug Adams Hitchiker Guide vibe when I play...uh..Your latest game.
