Roody Yogurt's Pirates!
Say Roody, you dug the original Pirates! game, right? Did you play the remake? Is it a better game than the original? I have never played it in any form. But I should.

I have played the remake, yes. A lot of what has been added is indeed sort of fun, although some of the art direction is kind of stupid, IMO (can't point out any particulars as it has been months since I have touched the game).
Overall, I think I had more fun with the original since victory seemed nearer, but both are just insanely past my capabilities. Still, just because I think it might be harder for you to jump into the original at this day and age (of course, my fond memories involve the C64; maybe the PC Pirates! Gold edition still holds up), I'd probably recommend playing the remake. You should have enough fun for a little while that you can at least imagine what was intriguing about it that we fans put long hours into it back in the day.
Aardvark also played both versions, didn't he? Maybe he has a different opinion.

I have found that it's easier to ballroom dance while watching the arrow keys rather than the girl's directions. They are all pretty much the same patterns so after a couple three tries it gets easier. Hard part is pirouetting (sp)
so as to get the big throbbing heart.
And I get too cocky during land battles and just try to make a run for the door, usually disasterous.
I sort of like the Pirates Gold graphics a little better than the new ones but that may just be nostalgia.
